bet there are plenty of Mike Hunts around though to slot in the joke.

I went to school with one in Hexham, funnily enough him coming to school wanting to be called Mike and not Michael lasted all of one day 😂

  2. Surely it won't be announced until 1 July at the earliest - a quick google shows whilst the window slammed open on 14 June 2023 this is for domestic transfers only - international transfers from 1 July 2023.

Edit - Serie A window remains slammed shut until 1 July as well.

Don't run your transfer baths for another *8* days.

Apologies if I've misinterpreted anything - happy to be corrected.

  3. Honestly, I don't think it's a bad lineup considering the opponents.

Gordon and Miggy will be pressing with high energy. This isn't the game for ASM, who I think would be frustrating, if he started. Maybe against tired legs he can come on as a sub and contribute.

Wilson might be out of form, but I think he's just a bit tougher than Isak and obviously more experienced against City.

Lascelles is a straight swap, we'll see how he gets on.

I'm relatively confident, tbh. Wouldn't be surprised if we nicked a result, but expect a draw, or a loss by a small margin.

Watch it be 5-0 now I've said that.

Now top of N-O league :)

Not sure what happened for you on Sunday, but I managed to stay top when everything finished updating. Had a lucky few weeks.

Edit - just realised there's more than one forum league. But... why?

Edit 2 - I'd be 7th in the newer one. That's deflating. Well done on 1001!

  5. I saw this on the r/NUFC subreddit. I'm on mobile and just copy-pasting, so god knows what the formatting will be like.

Anyway - it's Bournemouth fan u/machdel talking about Howe's transfers.

Did a quick search. Sorry if Giggs.

Seen a lot of comment on here, on Twitter, and elsewhere about Eddie Howe being shit in the transfer market. As a Bournemouth fan (and by extension a Howe defender), I thought I’d try and analyse his record at bringing players in, with 10-15 of the most famous examples, starting with the 2 most infamous ones.

DOMINIC SOLANKE - Bought: £19 million. Sold: Still here.

A widely mocked transfer, it took Solanke a while to get going at Bournemouth. Whilst the transfer fee may still look steep, he has become the focal point of the club’s attack, and currently has 12 goals from 17 matches this season. If Bournemouth go up, I’m confident he’ll prove his worth.

JORDON IBE - Bought: £15 million. Sold: £0

The one total failure on the list. To pin this solely on Howe is unfair however, as Ibe’s repeated struggles off the pitch with depression hampered his attempts to kick on at Dean Court.

NATHAN AKE - Bought: £20 million. Sold: £41 million.

Probably the best player to have worn the shirt, he gave Bournemouth consistent excellence, before being sold for a profit to Manchester City, with Howe doubling his money.

ARNAUT DANJUMA - Bought: £14 million. Sold: £21.3 million

His start was thwarted by injury but was easily one of the best players in the Championship last season. Got in the Team of the Year and was sold for a profit to Villarreal.

TYRONE MINGS - Bought: £8 million. Sold: £25 million.

Never really caught fire at Bournemouth but Howe nearly tripled his money here.

CALLUM WILSON - Bought: £3 million. Sold: £20 million.

A brilliant striker for multiple seasons. Gave Bournemouth fans wonderful memories and departed for a large profit.

JOSH KING - Bought: free. Sold: nominal fee of approx £2/3million.

The club’s top scorer across the 5 seasons we spent in the Prem. Shame Bournemouth couldn’t shift him for more money but clearly a successful signing.

PHILIP BILLING - Bought: £15 million. Sold: Still here.

As with Solanke, an uncertain start, but he is now proving his worth in the Championship. Turned into one of the best attack minded midfielders in the league, and is getting better and better.

AARON RAMSDALE - Bought: £800,000. Sold: £18.5 million

Was named Player of the Year in his last season here, a top goalkeeper, who was sold for a huge profit to Sheffield Utd.

JEFFERSON LERMA - Bought: £25 million. Sold: Still here.

Our club record fee, but has been one of the team’s most consistent top-performing players for successive years.

MATT RITCHIE - Bought: £400,000. Sold: £11 million.

A wonderful player who played an immense part in Bournemouth’s rise. A handsome profit made.

RYAN FRASER - Bought: £400,000. Sold: free.

A player who Howe picked up and turned into one of the best wingers in the league for a season or two. Could’ve fetched a large sum for him if he hadn’t downed tools and refused to play in the relegation battle.

LEWIS COOK: Bought: £6.5 million. Sold: Still here.

An immensely talented player whose bursts of excellence have been stunted by injury.

So — not only is Howe’s reputation over “big money” mostly undeserved, his management credentials are shown in the number of players he has improved, used to get Bournemouth up the leagues, and then sold on for profit. Not to mention the number of players who were integral parts of our Championship and Premier League squads that were picked up for free.

Ake, Danjuma, Wilson, King, Ritchie, Ramsdale are the names that deserve to define Howe’s transfer legacy, not just Jordon Ibe.

Players like Brooks, Solanke, Lerma, Billing, L.Cook, and Stacey still form the backbone of our side.

Like all managers, he has made signings that didn’t work out, but they are small fry in comparison to his number of successes.

He is the greatest manager in Bournemouth’s history, and gave the fans a decade’s worth of exciting, attacking football that saw the club go from -17 points at the bottom of League Two, to a pretty stable 5 seasons in the greatest league in the world.

Bournemouth were relegated in an injury crisis, and even then by the finest of margins (remember that VAR decision that kept Villa up?). Anyone who focuses on that rather than the unqualified success he brought to Bournemouth for a decade should probably reconsider.

I hope Newcastle fans enjoy his tenure and can jettison some media induced anxiety about his transfer record as a result of this post.

  6. Funny this week! Wor Mandy's face is spot on!

He has dipped overall. I remember creasing in the early days - some more recent strips haven't been laugh out loud, for sure.

Last week seemed, well, a bit Guardian-y, as if his editor encouraged him heavily. Even if that isn't the case, he's well within his rights to put something like that up, even if he over-egged the pudding, so to speak.

  7. When we got beat off Derby - quite easily - in the only game they won that season, eventually getting relegated with a grand total of 11 points. I was sat behind the goal when Kenny Miller scored. Got back to my car to find I'd got a parking ticket. A relatively early low point in the Ashely regime. Largely downhill from there on in.

    That is so fucking niche.

    Where is it?

Someone on the r/NUFC subreddit says his mate did it on the side of "an abandoned building in Durham countryside" and then posted it to FB alongside the King Curtis video.

  9. Who's Harry?

    A Twitter random.

    Ignore.

He's employed at a place that has previously acted for Staveley in a court case. Not that this means he is in any way ITK, but he works with people who possibly may know more than some others. Whether he's hinting at stuff he's heard which is just "office gossip", I don't know.

He hasn't made his employment public, and he hasn't said why he's saying this, or how he would be aware of any of this. But as a random Chelsea fan account, he doesn't fit the profile of your standard Twitter ITK (i.e. not in any way ITK, just passing off hundreds of made up bits of bullshit as you-heard-it-here-first "facts").

In my opinion, it's unlikely he or his sources have the inside track on whether we'll be sold. But it's certain that he has a professional involvement with people who have directly acted for Staveley in a legal capacity.

What he is saying is interesting, and he shouldn't be dismissed as yet another Twitter attention seeker. But whether what he is passing on actually transpires, or just turns out to be chambers gossip - who knows. Only time will tell.

  10. He also implies it could be through Aramco.

If it is through ARAMCO we will experience the same problems as PIF because ARAMCO is owned 100% by the Saudi government.

It's listed on the Saudi stock exchange now. Most valuable company in the world I believe.

I assume the Saudi Government own a large % of it but presumably not all as it can be publically traded.

I got the impression that his Aramco comment was more in relation to getting around FFP with them as Man City style sponsors, rather than outright purchasers/replacing PIF. I think that is his own interpretation in response to someone else mentioning it would take time to build a good team even in the event of a takeover because of FFP.

  11. If you don't want to doxx the lad you probably shouldn't post detailed instructions on how to find out exactly who he is and where he works on a public forum.

He hasn't been doxxed, and I don't think it would be easy to replicate this as I haven't been that explicit regarding the method. I'll edit anyway. Jeez...

  12. Edited post.

So... I found out through some internet sleuthing, that the owner of this Twitter account works in a barrister's chambers with connections to Amanda Staveley.

There's definitely a reason the person behind this Twitter account would potentially have heard something. Whether this stems from careless conjecture/office gossip, or comes from Staveley's confidence (which seems to be a driving force for rumours), or is completely fabricated... who knows. But, given the lad's employer/colleagues, there's is definitely the potential for him to have heard something very few others would have heard, which makes me feel somewhat more positive and optimistic.

Feel free to dismiss or get ludicrously excited - it's up to you. I'm going to bed, as this kept me up longer than I really wanted it to.
