  1. Remember how he blamed Armstrong, when we got beat by Manchester United ?
  2. Trying really hard not to get my hopes up
  3. in fairness to pep, I think ( if i'm not mistaken ), he has said he wants to go manage Brescia someday, so I guess that will be his challenge. I think if I was manchester united, I would go for Pochetino plays a good brand of footbal and could be the long term appointment they are looking for .

  7. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-new-boy-jonjo-10730346 Rob Elliot feels that Newcastle United have landed an “absolute steal” after snapping up Jonjo Shelvey for £12million from Swansea City. The United goalkeeper, who is emerging as a player of the season candidate this term, has revealed that Shelvey turned down the chance to play for TWO clubs in the south to help Newcastle fend off the threat of relegation. Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace were understood to be keen on Shelvey, but Elliot says the England midfielder was keen to sign for the Magpies. Elliot, a close pal of Shelvey from their days at Charlton together, told the Chronicle: “I told him what it was like here, but he wanted to come here anyway because he wanted to come to the biggest club. “I think that says it all, who we are as well. The fans are going to love seeing him play. “I can’t believe we signed him for the money we have paid. He could prove to be an absolute steal and he could be a legend here. “He is just 23-years-old and has his best years in front of him.” Shelvey will hope to follow in the footsteps of Londoners like Rob Lee and Les Ferdinand. Both are still much-loved figures on Tyneside who defy the myth that Geordie fans don’t take to southern players. Elliot offered more insight on Shelvey’s big money move and said: “He turned down a couple of clubs where he could have lived at home. “So that shows what he thinks of Newcastle as a club and what he thinks of the stadium. He said to me he thought Newcastle was a big club. “No matter what the outside world thinks of Newcastle you should come here and see the passion of 50,000. “He watched his first game from the stands against Man United. Why wouldn’t you want to play for Newcastle? “So hopefully, it will be great for everybody moving forward.” Shelvey is set to make his debut for Newcastle against West Ham on Saturday with Elliot expecting him to bring plenty to the United XI. Elliot said: “We have Jonjo coming into to add quality to midfield. We can only expect good things. He’s class. “To put it into perspective he came into our team at 16-years-old at Charlton, and you’d have thought he was 28. I am so excited he’s signed. He’s not only a great lad but he’s a winner. “OK, he might go over the top a little bit but that’s what the fans love. He just wants to play. He had a lot of options to go to clubs.” And when asked what Newcastle fans could expect, Elliot said: “Jonjo wears his heart on his sleeve and is a proper Essex boy. “He has a pure desire to play football and doesn’t care about anything else. So he will fit in really well up here, the fans will love him. “The only thing I’d say is that he’s still 23 so it could be a bit of patience with him. “All players need time. Hopefully, he settles in straight away. He’s a top man.”
  8. CM: JONJO SHELVEY Shelvey's weirdness is perfectly typified by his performance against old club Liverpool this season. Before the match, he said he was going to treat it like any other game; keep his head down, not let the past get to him. By the end of it, he'd scored once (for Swansea), set up another two (for Liverpool) and then set up another (for Swansea). He spent most of the game panicking from box to box, like a spooked ostrich in a house of mirrors. His distribution veered between Zidane and Zombie Jesus. He has played terribly at points this season, yet has still managed to score one of its best goals. He's a bizarre kind of player, an imposing yet erratic midfielder who for some reason wants to attack everyone and everything, like Yaya Toure with rabies. But at the same time he can appear stupidly delicate. He's capable of sublime skill and, during moments of obvious mental crisis – Shelvey is not very good at hiding these, at all – his teammates protect him like a haemophiliac prince. Plus he looks, in the words of a pal of mine, like "a friendly alien from Farscape". Needless to say, he's a shoo-in for the VICE alternative team of the season. In fact, he's the fucking captain. https://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/vices-11-favourite-players-of-the-season

    Sunderland

To say, they would take 17th every year might be a bit much , but it's true about how easily pleased they are, the Sunderland fans, I know, where embarrassingly elated with the signing of Jack Rodwell, perhaps similar to what we were like when we signed Ben Arfa.

  16. Found this on redcafe, a little while back Newcastle fans just wont admit that they are wrong about this one. Exactly. The were the same with Allardyce. Have you ever seen a Newcaslte fan mention that when Allardyce took over their results improved, yet they blamed him for all their problems. It made no sense at all. I can have sympathy for those who didn't like his style, but half of them we blaming him for their results and league position, despite the fact he was taking them up the table! When they got their way and he was fired and replaced by their hero Kevin Keegan, they plummeted. Yet never once do you hear them say anything good about Allardyce. Like i said, I think it's fine for them to not like the way they played under him, but they could at least acknowledge that he improved them and sacking him was the biggest reason they ended up getting relegated. You ask the average football fan about Allardyce's time at Newcaslte and they'll say he was a flop and it's because their fans convince everyone he was, when in truth he blatantly did a decent job in the conditions he had to work under. Ironically it could be his appointment at Sunderland that sends Newcaslte down. http://www.redcafe.net/threads/the-true-geordie.409349/page-2#post-18442142

  18. Reading Drogba's autobiography, and it would seem in the early part of his career, he suffered a lot from injury and had to get his own personal team of physio's, to sort him out, wonder if this would be the way to go for Rolando
  19. Apparently Aarons might be fit for this, probably wouldn't start anyway, like
  20. So sad, a bloke who by all accounts was a thoroughly decent human being, to go at such a young age is gutting, ofcourse my thoughts are with his family who must be distraught.
