We shouldn't have been looking at Liverpool for loan signings on the last day, we should have been looking everywhere throughout the window, even with Carroll we we're still short up front and on the wings, and the fact Bentley, Martins & Sturridge (who all would have improved us) have made 6 month loan moves to 'lesser' clubs shows that we simply never did enough. Even Gudjohnsen who moved to Fulham in the final hours would have greatly improved us.

I think the most likely outcome is that he may have been asked to hand in a transfer request, but only after it had been made clear he wanted to leave (more than likely after it was made clear to him he wouldn't be getting a payrise).
