Stelling sticking with SJP despite the graphic saying otherwise. Hope he keeps up the good fight.

    sunderland

mackem vote, like their new nickname. They even got the copycat name wrong as it's named after the Lisbon suburb it's in. Not like we can talk these days. I'm having a bad night.

    sunderland

Just watched ITV's shit coverage - remind me, is Deflection or Own-Goal their top scorer this season? They both seem to score regularly but cba to watch all their scruffy goals again. I know they've had a few screamers too just lately, like.

    sunderland

interesting post in there that we are apparently p*ssed off that they have started using SMB to mean sunderland message board, he really should ask why they've adopted the term 'mackem' which had always been an insult. literally like calling someone a t*** then they adopt it as their name. On this, I remember Billy Connolly doing one of his "Tour of Britain" type programmes from here and he was in the tower of the Tyne Bridge and pointed out graffiti saying "so-and-so's a mackem", then explained how proud so-and-so must have been of blunderland's shipbuilding heritage to have written that about himself, because it came from the war when they said to each other "we mackem, they attack 'em", then gave an admiring little sigh to camera. I exploded in about 15 different directions and still haven't properly calmed down at the sheer wrongness of everything about that bit of propaganda, although I will accept that Billy didn't know what he was talking about. IF he corrects the error through a megaphone on every public appearance he ever makes in future. And in an open letter published in all newspapers. Can't say fairer than that. Also remember an ep of Balderdash & Piffle (the entomology* programme with the lovely bit of posh Victoria Coren) where they could only date it back to the 80s in writing and some jerk (Mike Harding?) presented the bit, also suggesting they invented it. Ffs it's obviously from us cos they talk funny cos they never went to skowul. The losers even had it as an option when they were flapping about for a new nickname but went for the pussies instead. Jeez, what a fiasco that was. *Tee-hee, my little joke
  6. Someone brought up gay footballers on The Legends earlier because the programme's on next week and Malcolm Macdonald said they'd always been around and didn't get any stick (fnarr fnarr, obviously) in his day. I find that interesting because it goes against the accepted version of machoman history the likes of Vinnie Jones perpetuate and also in a way suggests a deeper team spirit than I'd expected. Obviously I'd like names, but just out of interest and not to vilify. I'd probably respect and admire them more tbh for their inner strength at putting up with the s**** they'll have had from people over the years. But it might just have been him talking bollocks again (fnarr fnarr?). Personally I couldn't give a hoot where people want to put it as long as it's not in me! Oh, or the other obviously wrong places. There are quite a lot of them, aren't there? Anyway, it would be nice if it were true. Shame about Justin Fashanu. He played for us once, you know.
  7. They get a chance every two years man. Switched it to next year this time, so all this palaver again in 12 months (I hope).
  8. Between Shearer, Clark, Carrick, Beardsley, Saylor and some others they could easily help out. I heard Steve Bruce came into some money recently...
  9. Didn't Given make a mistake when Bentley scored for Norwich too? Also I'm sure there was a decision that went against us in the Villa away game. We were also notoriously slow starters under SBR. Aye, Sorensen handled outside the box to save Bellamy's shot and Mike b*****d Riley only gave him a yellow. We would have gone 3-2 up but ended up losing 4-2. Bobby was sacked after that game.
  10. I was waiting for the Barca clip.
  11. It was rash, but Johnson is a diving c***. This is true. From when he was a kid at Birmingham he has a ridiculous history of diving in the penalty area. Good player, doesn't need to, but does, the c***. iirc he got Steve Harper sent off with a dive in whatever they called the League Cup in those days in about 2000 and I've never forgiven the diving cheating c***. Or Steve b****** Bennett, also a c***. My house, home of the grudge.
  12. Cool he's a legend Always liked Sib. Jenas and Dyer on Goals on Sunday. Can't see anything that can go wrong there...
  13. Wow, bloody hell. RIP. Really sad that like, seems to have come out of the blue: http://www.themag.co.uk/tyne-talk/newcastle-united-%E2%80%93-one-of-the-finest/ What a shame. One of my favourite Mag writers. R.I.P S**t. Went to school with him, canny lad. Haven't seen him for years but always enjoyed his stuff in The Mag. Shocked. RIP.

    Sunderland...

I liked Ray Blackhall. I was also at the Bastia game, in the Leazes, Rep was brilliant that night and killed us. Didn't mean nowt against Ray, or the others, s**t just happened that year. I was in the Leazes too, trying to work out how many we needed to score now! Too many, it turned out.

    Sunderland...

It was made worse for them knowing that we'd finished 5th and had qualified for Europe, 8 points behind Liverpool who won the league. It went tits up for us a year later when we followed them down. That was the Gordon Lee bit, wasn't it? Then player power, Richard Dinnis, Bomber Blackhall, Dennis Martin, dark days indeed. I was at the Bastia match when Johnny Rep et al. gave us a gentle humping. Babe in arms, obv.

    Sunderland...

F*** me. I do apologise, 35 years and counting it is. That grudge must be getting very heavy by now. At least they've got something to look forward to at the end of the season the way things are going...

    Sunderland...

Coventry narrowly avoided relegation at the expense of Sunderland during the 96-97 season. Obviously rather than this just being a simple twist of fate the residents of Mackemland have taken this personally and now hold a grudge against them. Basically, imagine us despising Hull* for daring to finish one place above us when we went down because that's more or less their problem. * in 13 years time! After they've been relegated and are in a different league probably for keeps... Nope, that level of self-pity is completely beyond my imagination. If they weren't so despicable I'd try to advise them to seek professional help.
  18. Haha, just read all this. I thought it was just me yesterday! Had a bit of a rant about it at work today and just got blank looks. I always think commentators and "experts" are biased against us anyway, so just assumed it was me being oversensitive yet again. The Cabaye thing was so stupid and he just kept digging, he had loads of goes at Ben Arfa for trying to be creative and said he wasn't strong enough (I thought he was looking stronger personally), all their fouls were fine, just a free kick, we only had one shot on target and scored - he couldn't get over that! - and "The Rangers" were great. I swear any ex-NUFC players bend over backwards NOT to be biased on our games, but all the rest just let rip, including our exes who hold grudges - Souness, Allardyce, Lawrenson, etc. Makes my blood boil!
  19. Aye, similar challenge to the one by De Jong that broke Ben Arfa's leg - off the ground, two footed, scissor motion. Straight red. Yes, had to explain it to the bairn earlier how horrible it is getting hit with one of them. Couldn't find a reason how the de Jong one wasn't even a free kick like, just had to say the ref didn't see it (cos he brought it up). Hate lying to cover up for idiots, but kids need answers and rules.
  20. What a guy, what a role model. "Have you made a New Year's resoution?" "No. I make my resolutions every day. Be nice to people and they will give it back." Not verbatim, but why can everyone not be like that? (Sigh)
  21. Butch showed his inside knowledge of Italian football saying Mourinho didn't fancy Santon when he arrived at Inter. And here was me thinking he'd given him his debut and played him when not injured, then Leonardo being in charge when he was sent on loan and then sold. D'oh!
