I don’t foresee Villa coming out and attacking us rather making life difficult and hitting Watkins on the counter. im convinced after watching us return to our style against PSV - a team prepared to not just sit in - that the answer to our low block issue is getting Wolt to stay up front and actually playing to his feet and getting bodies round him. I get that its hardly a Pep based unpacking of our current tactical issues but I just don’t see our usual pressing style suddenly working again against teams not prepared to open up. Short version is play Wolt over Wissa. Actually pass it to him and get Barnes near him. 3-0 win.

Fee is relative to the circumstance. Elanga can perform to a much higher standard and has the stats to show it. Even from an eye test perspective basing it entirely on games he’s ripped through us he can play better. Murphy wasn’t given time. He was written off as absolutely useless. My only point was there could be an example in Murph given he’s developed into a solid enough Premier League player when we’d apparently “signed the wrong brother”. Elanga’s ceiling is much higher and despite his horrific start that no one can even argue against he’s got time to improve. He also deserves backing as the fans turning on him doesn’t seem to be working out.

Not disagreeing with most of the points about Elanga you’ve made here but there may be a lesson in the player you’ve compared him to. Some of the shit thrown at Murph over the years was ridiculous. Some of it justified. Some of it way over the top. Elanga is still really young and still has some of the tools to be a solid player. He needs backing though.

Ideally both need to be replaced and unless Pope is happy to be a no2 and sign a deal deal on that basis it puts us in a dodgy position with contract lengths and age.

I think he’d be an ideal 9 for us in a 4-2-3-1 system with someone really creative behind him or even someone like Morgan Rogers who will push on past him. I still reckon Howe will get it right with him in time though. Hes got too much quality not to be successful.
