I thought for all Atsu pretty much fluffed most take-ons he was still trying. I hate how Perez seems to cower back into his shell at times whereas Atsu just kept trying stuff. You need balls like that playing in those positions or we'd never get anywhere.

That was a bit naughty but I really don't like seeing players getting banned for stuff like that. Same with the Shelvey on Alli one. Surely it's a yellow card because you're not really hurting anyone with stuff like that are you? It's mostly just brainless stupidity.

Close game but thought Brighton deserved their win. Both sides should have took their chances but didn't in the 1st half then we were absolutely garbage for the first 20 minutes of the second. I was hoping to see Merino and Shelvey play together at some point but even with Brighton sitting back that doesn't really look like a partnership that would work even though Shelvey looked bright when he came on. I thought we were going to equalise when he got behind their defence and attempted to square it. A slight positive from that was how we still tried to pass the ball and play within the last few minutes of the game in previous years we've just hopelessly punted balls forward.

Time to go this route with Gayle coming on for Perez and a move to 4-4-2 Baffled by this clamour by people to go 442 at the first sign of any set back. Does any club successfully play 442 now?

I'd be pleased with a point today. Similar to us after the first couple of games Brighton are a better side than some of their results, I really don't think there's a whole lot of difference between any of the sides that are likely to be in the bottom 10/12 places and like the games we've won and lost - aside from West Ham and Spurs - they're settled on really fine margins. Hopefully we pinch a win with some traditionally bad fixtures coming up, I'd like to see Joselu get a goal after his missed chances the other day.

What a win! Harder than it needed to be but I'm liking how we're looking that little bit better than the sides around us.

It's a bit harsh on Gamez not making the squad but I'm much happier to see Mbemba back in the lineup. Same with Manquillo but Yedlin's pace is probably going to be needed today, hopefully he starts well with it being his first game. Would absolutely love Joselu to get a couple of goals today into a decent win. I could see either side nicking a tight win, fingers crossed it's us.

Watched the highlights last night and thought the same.

I thought that was even more noticeable when he went off and Gayle came on. We didn't really have a focal point and it gave Swansea a lot of the ball. I'm not doing Gayle down with that, he isn't that type of forward, but you can see why Rafa will likely pick Joselu in this league.

Fantastic win! Merino oozes quality and we didn't really look like conceding the lead. Joselu leads the line really well and it isn't really looking like anyone is going to take that spot from him.

I hope he gets a few games at Brighton just to see what he's like. It seems a shame that he's gone from one of the better keepers in the league to almost untouchable for anyone.

Have we had a good transfer deadline day in recent history? I can only remember nothing happening, failed bids and stupid late attempts.

Good luck to him! He's probably one of the more underwhelming squad signings we made last summer but didn't really get much of a chance to get a run going with how consistent and injury free our better defenders were. I think he'll be a good signing for Norwich at that price.

Hope he stays. Given the chances Fulham create he'd absolutely destroy that division so you can see why they're chancing their hand.
