Timing, he forced a move mid season. Sure he gave us years of good service but the club had certainly played a part in helping him make his reputation. That was his last real chance of a big move though. None of the other clubs needed him, City had the money and were in the opening stages of where they are now. If they'd not signed Given that January, they'd have either just signed someone else or wait until the January until they were in a position to sign someone better. If he'd cracked on for another 4 months and played to form (such as that horrendous 1-5, never forgotten) he'd have had no problems getting a lucrative move. I'll be honest here - I think player loyalty is a concept that went out the window years ago. Why does it matter that he is Irish? I will always love Given but that is partly due to his performances for Ireland but he was one of the best keepers in the league when he was here and saved us many times. Plus we all know that if we signed him Pardew will try to use him as a "shola". We need a target man its quite simple. Shane Long has always been a handful for defenders and has always been useful uptop by himself. He's a good Premiership striker of which we don't have many. You can keep telling yourself that but good premiership strikers don't have a career best of 8 and none of the teams in the current top 10 would go near him. Ribery plays a very rigid style of football and works twice as hard as Robben. i largely agree. He looks amazing from the highlights from the Bundesliga. From what I'm reading from you England fans, Townsend seems a bit like McGeady for Ireland. Loses the ball a lot but in the end is actually the only creative threat in the team (bar Rooney for England obviously)
