If you follow the logic that being in the last year of your contract knocks 30-40% off your value, asking 20m for him now values him in the high 20’s. That seems too much for me.

The thing that makes sense about it is that there aren’t a great deal of genuine dual purpose players like Pedro available. We’re going to need some form of back-up to Isak, ideally we probably want it to be in the form of that type of dual purpose player, but assuming we can’t find another one of them, we pivot to going to an outright backup striker.

Would having Kraft or Lascelles in the CL squad be the difference between the team being run into the ground or not?

Would be my thought initially too, but he did kind of phase him out in the second half of last season. He definitely seemed well behind Miley in the pecking order.

Not with one year left on his contract he’s not. That values him at something like 30/35 if he had multiple years left, which isn’t realistic.

Would probably mean we have to go with an A List squad of 21 rather than the 22 we would have been allowed if Longstaff was here. Probably means not registering someone like Kraft or Lascelles.

That’s very much the top end of what I thought we could get for him with one year left.
