We were a group where two of the teams went on to make the semi finals that season. It’s mental to assume with certainty Villa would have progressed any further than we did if placed in the same format/group.

So did we… Tbh, I guess the point was more that the two formats are, IMO, virtually incomparable. They had extra games, but each one wasn’t life or death against an elite opponent. If we’d had games against Young Boys, Brugge and Celtic, we may have been able to rotate what limited resources we had a little better.

Might not even be that high, given his current salary. Although, if you’re paying over 50m for someone, there’s a strong argument to say a six-figure weekly salary would match that valuation.

Aye, whilst obviously not a bad thing at all, it’s fairly irrelevant at the moment as we’ve got a large crop of home grown already, just the club trained we’re missing. *although I suppose you could have Wilson, Lascelles, Pope, Longstaff, Willock all feasibly leaving in the next season or two, so probably wouldn’t want to replace ALL of them with foreigners.

I’d take all the reports with a pinch of salt. It depends which side they’re coming from as to what spin is put on it. As Eddie said following the Guehi saga last year, the numbers quoted were a load of shite. If two clubs are genuinely in negotiations (not actually sure if that’s the case here tbf), then there has to be a realistic belief on both sides that an acceptable number can be reached.

Well obviously, but the aim is clearly to negotiate from there. If they said “no, and he’s not even for sale at £80m”, I doubt we’d bother perusing it. There’s obviously a price, but whether it’s one we can get to is another matter.

Probably not the best examples mind, as they both only signed for those clubs because they gave them a pretty decent release clause. Although slightly obscure foreign signings are probably a bit different, granted.
