We don’t see out games by keeping possession. We just make sure that, primarily, we’re extremely defensively resolute from that point onwards. So in a sense @SUPERTOON is right, but given those stats you quote, is there any need to change?

Not really, if their model could get you into the elite places in the division, someone would have cracked it by now. But it doesn’t. It needs to be supplemented by “overpriced”, established PL talent. So every time we’re linked (not even every time we buy) with one of these “overpriced” PL players, people would do well to remember, these are the type of players (hopefully allied with so cheaper finds from elsewhere) that are proven to get you where you want to be.

Of course they’ll be some. And we may well buy some this window. But it’s a myth that only shopping in that market will get you consistently challenging at the top end of the table. For all the plaudits Brighton get (obviously rightly to a degree), they’ve finished 6th once and never been close to getting any higher. Leicester cracked it once on the back of Mahrez and Kante, but that wasn’t sustainable. Even if you look at Forest this year, they’ve gone real close, finding a couple of good ones in Murillo and Milenkovic, but the others like Wood, MGW, Elanga etc were PL buys that many would have said at the time they overpaid for.

Agreed, don’t think that could be argued tbh.

I’d say he’s a better ball carrier than Murphy. But like I’ve said before, I feel it’s been quite difficult to assess him given the way Forest set up.

But they were the ones close to mark, perhaps we’d have one for them…

Only one of them is on the list (and tbh he’s so inconsequential to the overall scheme of things it really doesn’t matter).

A good example is probably Waugh’s weekly transfer thing in the Athletic. I very much doubt he personally wants to rehash the same thing over and over, but the Athletic know that’s the kind of article that gets the views. So he’s made to.
