We’ve given him a pay rise. Obviously we don’t know the figures involved, but it’s almost a (much) lower level version of the Bruno situation. We’ve probably decided (after pushing from his agent no doubt…) that his contributions over a period of time have been of a higher value than whatever he was getting paid. So in order to protect ourselves from someone coming along and offering him more money, we’ve give him a pay rise and added a year on as part of that.

Seems like Werner’s on about £160k p/w so unless Leipzig are willing to pay 50%+ of that, I very much doubt we, or anybody else, will be prepared to take him on loan.

You’ll never stop touting completely, bar perhaps really stringent ID checking, which we all probably want to stay away from. But there has to be a (technology-driven) way of making it a lot more difficult than it currently is.

Digital tickets should make it harder to tout, but at the minute, if anything, it’s making it easier. If the digital aspect was more advanced, so tickets were accessed through some kind of NUFC app, and were only transferrable from one members app to another members app, then there would be a record of every time a ticket was transferred. But at the minute it’s just forward the email on to someone and away you go. Maybe that’s what the end goal is, but we’ll see.

Investigate what though? If she’s getting tickets through legitimate means there’s nothing to investigate. They can’t just be wasting resource trying to satisfy the whims of the Twitter lynch mob, half of whom would refuse to believe them anyway.

So how do you identify those people who were going regularly without the ticket being recorded against them?

I think the issue with doing that based on the data that was held prior to this season was that ST holders had been able to purchase extra tickets, and not assign them to anybody else. So you probably had a lot of people who didn’t have memberships but a friend or family member who was a ST holder was getting them a ticket for every game, but with no record of it actually being for them. Now that every ticket is assigned to an individual it makes the data a lot more accurate, however you now have the problem that getting a ticket as a member is a much down to luck, rather than ‘loyalty’, so not sure how they go about addressing that in terms of member loyalty schemes moving forward? I do agree it would be good if they could come up with something though, just don’t know what that something would be?

If nothing else it’s bringing the situation to a head now. Rather than it getting to the eve of the window, and us having any potential plans disrupted.
