Reminds me of this ? Terry’s World View
  2. Whether we like it or not, they definitely have to give consideration to getting more home grown players into the squad for the long term. You need a minimum of 8. At present I think we only have two who I would say are already at the required level and would feel confident of them being at that level or (hopefully) better in the long term (4+ years): Willock Gordon There’s another handful who could be, but for differing reasons I’m not as confident as I am with the above two: Longstaff Murphy Anderson Targett Ashby Then we have older players who clearly are of the required level, but age would dictate it’s unlikely they will be in the long term: Pope Trippier Wilson Burn Leaving the rest that aren’t at that level and very likely won’t get there: Lascelles Dummett Ritchie Darlow Gillespie Fraser Lewis Now this doesn’t need to rectified in the next window, or even the next two or three windows, but it’s got to be a gradual process starting away really. *In hindsight, this would have been far better in the Squad thread, but fuck it, I’ve typed it all out now.
  3. I don’t think being runner-up in the league cup has ever qualified you, has it?
  4. Millwall got knocked out in the first round and Wigan came bottom of the group when they qualified. Having said that I do take your point about variety. Something the Conference League seems to have been good for providing.
  5. Not sure about that like. Millwall’s route to the final (and therefore Europe) in 2004 was: Walsall Telford Burnley Tranmere Sunderland
  6. Does he? Didn’t know that. Definitely something that would be extremely helpful to us. Also adds increased justification to the rumoured price tag like.
  7. We’ll have 5 teams in the CL. Still slightly unsure as to whether West Ham winning the Conference League would have any impact on places outside of the CL?
  8. If Man Utd were playing Sunderland, and the result had no obvious impact on us, it would be very strange to hope for anything other than a resounding Man Utd win.
  9. Bit weird that Palace are going back to Hodgson really. His MO is to come in and make teams organised, hard to breakdown etc. which is exactly what Palace already are. Not sure anyone has ever thought ‘we’ve got serious problems with our attacking play, let’s turn to Roy Hodgson’.
  10. The build-up to that 6-2 game was quite something. There was a genuine feeling that if we won, we could possibly win the league. Then Jenas scores an absolute raker and the place is going mental, before Scholes decided to put on an absolute clinic in finishing ?
  11. It’s 100% an issue for us moving forward, when you consider who a lot of the current homegrown players in the squad are. Lascelles, Ritchie, Dummett, Darlow, Fraser, Lewis are all coming to the end of their time here (bit harsh on Lascelles possibly). Even Wilson, Trippier and Burn probably aren’t long term players. We have to replace some, if not most, with other homegrown players.

    Scott McTominay

Interestingly in the four seasons he’s played significant games, they’ve finished 3rd, 2nd, 6th and 3rd. Now you can easily say that’s in spite, rather than because of him, but there’s no question that’s the finishing places we’re targeting.
  13. Anyone got the balls to start a SMc thread?
  14. The question is would signing McTominay generate more debate/argument/bitching on here than signing Gordon did?
  15. I think it’s more likely he’s lost confidence in his body
  16. We are slight favourites to beat Man Utd. Would imagine we’ll be stronger favourites against Spurs (depending on how the next month goes obviously). Possibly not against Arsenal though.
  17. Nah, Spurs are done in all other comps, hence Conte’s rant about never winning anything
  18. May as well add Mbappe to the first list…
  19. Look at the remaining teams. I’d probably make West Ham favourites against all of them
  20. West Ham winning the Conference League won’t have any impact on the qualification places will it?
  21. If that was the case why did he get himself booked for standing over Trippier? ?
  22. Problem is there’s no one like that this season. In fact Forest playing away from home are probably the closest to it. It’s an absolute toss up, although I’d be pretty astonished if Everton went down with Dyche.
