Joelinton doesn't get into those positions I had a lot of time for Gayle for that very reason, he is instinctively a goal scorer, but I don't think he's the player he was. Looks slower and not fully fit, and in truth, never does. I just don't have any faith in him any more, I think he's just winding down his career and picking up a nice wage. Tron, I love your football knowledge, I really do. I watched the full game and Gayle actually made those chances (that he missed). Those chances haven't been happening all season for one simple reason, JOELINTON. It is no coincidence that we looked so much better with a striker who knows what a striker is supposed to do. This is Gayles' probably 3rd start of the season and it's March. The Joelinton lovers have said give him more time. All I ask is give Gayle more game time and we will be fine. Keep Joelinton on the bench or at home (that's how I rate him as a striker).

You obviously haven't seen Joelinton play football. He would have been on the half way line. None of those chances would have occurred with him on the pitch. You are really being harsh on Gayle and giving no praise for the Southampton goalkeeper who was excellent.

tbf his game has never been about clinical finishing. It's why theres always been downs above championship level. We look far far better with Gayle in the team. You are just frustrated that their goalkeeper was excellent. Gayle did not do a lot wrong today. At least he was in a position for the chances to be created. This has NEVER happened when Joelinton has led the line. Keep Joelinton on the bench and we may just be ok.

We are much better with Shelvey in the team. If fans can't see this then I'm staggered. I honestly think some on here hate him regardless of the performances he puts in. He is the best passer of a ball by far and controls the tempo. As for Danny Rose, I honestly can't believe how bad he is!

You are not in a minority at all. We have looked far more threatening with Gayle in the team. It's just people on here getting frustrated at the chances he could/should have scored with. He hasn't done a lot wrong really. It is no coincidence that we have created more with Joelinton out the picture.

Sheffield United were shocking tonight. I am not a fan of them and I still think they are overrated/useless. If we draw them in the quarter finals then we will beat them. This is from someone who thinks the Toon are rubbish by the way. Disagree with you on that. Sheffield United have become a solid enough team with a good foundation; Wilder's had years to drill in the style of play we're seeing today and it has been, more often than not, effective. They're not a perfect team by any means but their general play is a lot better than ours. (I've seen quite a bit of Sheffield United over the years fwiw). Disagree with your comments but sadly you will point to the league table as proof of Sheff Utd dominance. I would love to put a team (actually like ours) against them because their whole defence are six foot six centre halfs from the sixties. Slow, ponderous and cant pass a ball. A quick movement fast passing team would blow these away.
