It'll be like that Tottenham away game we won 1-0 at White Hart Lane, I think it was Remy that scored but we got absolutely battered the entire match and Tim Krul broke the record for number of saves in a game.

They've heard Michael Masi is on VAR.

Everyone is raising a variety of interesting points here but I really can't help but smile that there's such a back and forth about the merits of signing a current England international who plays for the champions of Spain. We've been taken over, we've got our club back and I'm loving it. Of course there's the very real threat of relegation but if the we're now in the position where it's realistic and plausible for us to sign a player of this calibre to help get us out of this situation then I can be fully on board with that.

Yeah, I'm sure the Big Five & Tottenham have played those International Champions Cup friendlies in recent years all over the world for crazy money. We played Crewe Alexandra at Queen Ethelburga's instead.

Maybe I've misremembered (or deliberately tried to get that bellend out my mind) but wasn't something like this how we bought Michael Owen? We had that new Northern Rock deal which they paid upfront and that's the money we paid Real Madrid (minus any alleged Jonathan Wooodgate alteration).

Killer Kilcline was a similar age when he signed. Admittedly the circumstances are a wee bit different but Trippier would improve us massively both on the field and off it. Having him in the dressing room and around the training ground (assuming we only show him that after he signs) would do wonders for the younger players. They say you can't buy experience but, in this case, you really can. Thiago Silva at Chelsea is probably older than me but more than does a job. Class is class.

The guide wasn't called Johnny, was he?

Yes, that's very true! Post match interviews are hardly Frost/Nixon, the interviewers just say stuff to the managers and players.

One of them is Robbie Savage's son, I don't think it's been mentioned yet. Also, I think they all only have one single surname rather than being double barrelled so their regen potential is halved, sadly.

Yeah, I think there's almost an unhealthy obsession over statistics at times. Antonio Conte was interviewed after Tottenham's game at the weekend and he was questioned about how he felt about only having 40% possession at home against a side like Norwich. He gave a very long, very diplomatic response when the executive summary was along the lines of him not really giving a shit, which is correct. Tottenham won 3-0.

I'd love it if we displayed our honours (and years) like they do at some grounds, the Emirates, for example: Admittedly, it might not be the biggest display but it would be nice to see our Edwardian dominance at the very least! My child-like Paint skills but hopefully you get the idea:

I hope he spent loads on the gloves, ended up not liking them when he got back home but was unable to return them because he'd already had his grubby (probably too oily) little mitts in them. I hope the sales assistant gave him shit for even trying.

It Trill be a fitting end.

Do you reckon they can just put the Sports Direct signs back up if taking them down has done this to us?

Yeah, I get what you mean. There's a bunch of sport on TV that I'm not interested in and am always disappointed when I'd rather have something on that I'd like. When Amazon have all the matches on together it's almost too much of a good problem! I was just being a little bit of a dick earlier, trying to be funny. I know we're not a bunch of mysogonsists on here - we just want to watch what we want to watch.

Sorry! Deep, deep... deep down he probably does have some redeemable qualities, perhaps not as a broadcaster but at least as a human being but I'm unwilling to give him any more time. He's clearly doing something right though! Again, so sorry to detract from a more worthy discussion. See, this is what he does.

I'd also like to caveat that viewing figures may not necessarily reflect quality or appeal. Prime example is anything that has to have either Gregg Wallace or Jermaine Jenas featured. Objectively, a colonoscopy is better value but unfortunately MasterChef viewing figures suggest otherwise. Also not everyone has sports packages on their TV so that would impact potential audience figures. The women's game needs to start somewhere though and it'll certainly grow in popularity as it is given more exposure, which it should and we shouldn't expect it to immediately have viewing figures like an FA Cup final from the 1970s. Sorry to temporarily take us a little off topic there. Fucking Gregg Wallace, man. Tit.

Those pesky women, you'd have thought they'd be satisfied (thankful) when we allowed them equal rights but now they're wanting enhanced rights for their showpiece event? It's a good point about standalone teams for women, I think that's what they have in America and there are a couple of teams in the Women's Championship that are distinct. I think I'd probably be in favour (just as long as they're not demanding their matches be broadcast on Men's television) but can understand why it's not the case here.

Whenever Thomas Partey is mentioned on TV, does 'Who Likes to Rock the Party?' by Flight of the Conchords immediately pop into anyone else's mind? Could just be me.
-
To give Arsenal a wee bit of credit there, if I remember rightly, Steve Bruce was in charge of Sheffield United at the time so it's understandable and justifiable shithousery.
-
Yeah, I do agree with the sporting and fair play element, almost like it's gentlemanly conduct and certainly something I'd love to see more of in the modern game - that Corinthian spirit. But it's Man Utd at Old Trafford, so fuck 'em.
-
I've definitely forgotten what giving a shit actually feels like. Torture!

It's quite fitting that you'd usually give the widest possible berth to someone who believes it's acceptable to dot an upper case I. Eddie deserves so much better.

I find it a bit strange how the modern approach is to dumb down a badge in order to make it easier for digital reproduction or whatever horseshit marketing term there is when surely it's never been easier to render a more complex image? With all the technology we have now when on some massive TV you can see the hairs on the arse of a fly from the other side of the room but drawing a couple of seahorses and a stripy shield is a step too far? I could understand if it was the Victorian times when they'd be individually stitched by hand but not now when they're directly printed onto shirts and we've all got retina destroying displays on our phones. We should keep our badge because it's mint. Worst case scenario - evolution not revolution.
