  1. There was only 6,000 more there today than when the place looks half empty. Officially. Really weird that six-on-a-row business, I mean singing it at the end, not the disproportinate fixation on it I've never heard any other set of fans have. They used to do the same thing with '2-1' gestures years after the fact and straight after we'd just beat them again. You'd never be about to lose to them and sing about the 6wins and 2draws in a row from 01-08 or winning the last game at Roker or being the first to win one at the stadium now. They'll be dragging up the 9-1 without it probably.
  2. actual 73 - battered from pillar to post but clung on for a famous win The spirit of 73 - lose to their rivals and quit
  3. Aye. Not at all a toys out the pram reaction again.
  4. Don't think were back or anything and played within ourselves with the game won, which is right choice given the circumstances. A cruise really rather than the massacre it might have been at 2-0 after 46minutes earlier this season or last season. Job done in a manner to which we were accustomed last season though - total control, giving no chances away - cant hurt - and whilst its an exclamation point on the chasm to us the taking away of their precious dwindling clutched smalltime straws is a nice bit of cruelty.
  5. Not world class but remember Jimmy Carter and Chris Allen giving our fullbacks torrid times. Carter ended up going to both Liverpool and Arsenal but barely kicking a ball and Allen got a move from Oxford to Forest 3 1/2 years later. I now have a suspicion Venison might have been pissed that game as it was 48hours after promotion at Grimsby.
  6. His best window and arguably two best and most important signings Robert and Bellamy were reportedly second choices behind Jeffers and Zenden who both tanked. Whilst we slept at the wheel with Southgate waiting to come.
  7. Hate how this doesn't feel like the 05/06 1-4 game ahead of time to me when it should. They were going down with record low points, we were top half, had won the first game and their stadium was a third empty - probably why so many stayed away was because the could only score a pride and token battle win with the war well and truly lost. Its even more in our favour now and damn! I'm not assuaged at all. Guess its the cup element.
  8. They did that with DiCanio. Withdrawing flags, complaining at the owner, citing his fascist tendencies. Didn't matter after he beat us and pro DiCanio graffiti popped up on my way to work by the afternoon of the next day. Not that they're trying to repeat history like a tried and tested ritual, its just what they seem to do at least once every season.
  9. I've seen better Newcastle teams than this look absolutely toothless without a genuine striker up top even though the player there was Rob Lee. Albeit Blackburn a year before they won the league and Monaco in 97 (Henry et al) were of a slightly higher standard than the current mackems
  10. Just want to sleep through this c*nt and have it feel like a historical result....even if we win, its not worth the angst just to subdue them. Working backshift right through the Ashley era that happened a couple times and it was much nicer. Have no interest in rubbing their noses in it should that happen, given the chasm between the two clubs it just seems wrong. Simply playing in a higher league ticked all those boxes. Got Wigan Man City vibes.
  11. Doesn't look like he has come back from injury the way he's played.
  12. Could say that about nearly every derby of the last 40years. Probably been less than a handful of games that weren't poor spectacles.
  13. Was a shit draw when it was made. People got chewed out for saying so at the time should at least have people seeing why. Not even saying we'll lose. Just that its a shit nothing tangible to gain draw. I'd be confident in saying we'll dominate this fixture henceforth and could well finish above them every season for the rest of our lives. but a one off game!?
  14. Southampton away was a lovely goal. He was also someone I felt very confident about from the penalty spot, think because he looked so confident himself. Which is extremely rare with us even with the likes of Beardsley, Cole, Lee an Solano.
  15. Defended him when he was here. Never said he was great but could see the benefit of having a focal point as opposed none (which was the option most of the time and as we know once again its better to have fit strikers than unfit good ones). He was a good lad by all accounts, didn't hide and an honest pro. And as if being a far better player and helping to achieve special things here would spare you being slaughtered by some of our number.
  16. Its an annoyance of mine but not universally right or wrong. A manager losing his job for being under par of the high standards he over-achieved to establish in the first place. Every manager has had seasons where they've gone backwards. Its only terminal if its someone that's never shown they can do anything prior. Happened to KK and Sir Bobby. 2000/01 under Sir Bobby was horrific, arguably worse and even more boring than Dalglish's first full season.
  17. I know man. As if when we lose with pride his sort aren't savaging the players and manager collectively and individually and instead praise the spirit and effort.* *and most of the time we don't even have to lose or draw for that to happen
  18. I've come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass..,and I'm all out of ass kicking
  19. Oh aye. The days when every game was a 1-1 draw or 1-0 win with them.
  20. Got beat at home by a shit Blackburn team on his last boxing day as manager. Was a far worse performance and game than today.
  21. Trippier and Burn (and everyone else) have been shite every game for years according to you, so I wonder what the difference could be between then and now since its not them.
  22. Would be interesting to see his shots against to goals conceded ratio bet its tragic not a coincidence
  23. Those that said it was a shit draw have been fully vindicated.
  24. Thought the very same thing. Goalkeeper beaten at the near post, defenders and forwards strolling around as if qualification for a world cup wasn't on the line, not laying a glove on the opponent.....definitely the fault of a bloke putting a cross into the box.
  25. Wood playing the role of Lua-Lua sort of. Lot more people itching to get on the current top manager for not meeting the high standards he himself created now than then though.
