  1. Seth Johnson scammed a career
  2. Mark Stein Little goblin c**t was also the propent of my first dive.
  3. Yeah, no need to be morbid about missing out on a hearty laugh. When they were last in the championship that was a cracking laugh. My favourite one was their fawning over Coleman on the radio phone-in he was in for, because they'd got a win and a draw in his first two games or something. Not sure he won another game. But they know the next Brian Clough when they see it.
  4. Beresford made a point in some documentary an example of the change that you used to have 15k in the stadium 40' before kick-off. Players would get clapped on and off for their warm ups. All-seater had to be the main cause of that going, no need to get in early On my first sight of the new Leazes people were drinking and looking out to Leazes Park. Expectations is key too though. You felt the team didn't need your support at times. Yet Sheffield Wed in 97/98 was one of the best atmos I've been in, I felt, probably because of the exact opposite, without Shearer and others and after getting battered by Juventus the week before. In retrospect they're probably a lot better than people remember having a watched a few non-descript games back recently and the atmo rocking, but 92/93 93/94 were exceptional, nationally.
  5. Brian Wade. 4 goal debut against us for Brighton, 6 goals that season in all, 9 in his league career, which only lasted about 20games.
  6. I wonder who will make a bigger deal about getting to Wembley for a 3rd division play-off, Wycombe or Sunderland. Bet its not the one logic and self-professed standing would suggest.
  7. Can't see them not going through. Though after their hubristic attitudes its only fair that the good guys Wycombe prevail overall if you ask me
  8. Stoykovic. Cos we only got the one tournament with him and he went for paid retirement in his prime to Japan. Balakov
  9. Yes. Collymore. One of about fifty strikers we were linked with in 95 with cash to burn. Had a great season with Forest but was glad we didn't go there based on just one season - and that Liverpool paid 8.5m for him. In the end 94/95 and 95/96 were the only seasons he wasn't sh1t. Flash in the pan for me. Kennet Anderson: had a trial with us in the 2nd tier under Keegan, a girl I knew said he was 'sh1te' in a reserve match he played in, was just a bit weird getting a international from the Euro's in those days and deciding not to bother, when he fetched up in USA 94, I wondered what KK made of it.
  10. The new Peter Beardsley - Nick Barmby
  11. Prosinecki went to Real Madrid under a foreign player limit so had the potential but like a lot of flair players, very topical, came with problems and manager fall-outs thus. Could still see echoes of the potential in his technique at that point. Seen that doc on ESPN yonks ago, been meaning to get a copy of it for nearly as long. Most vividly remember Savicevic being interviewed mournful about the break-up because they had a great team, some Croat off camera shouts "You're a piece of s*it" and Saviceivc shouts back something like "f**k you, I f**k you in that gaping hole" Nearly threw in Jugovic and Jarni for under-rated, Some team: Suker, Boban, Boksic, Jarni, Stojkovic, Pancev, Savicevic, Jugovic, Spasic (Real Madrid), Prosenecki, Mijatovic, Mihaijlovic.
  12. The same summer Vialli went to Juventus, was a disaster too until 94/95. Remember marvelling at the price tags. Lot of that was about the foreign players rule so they needed the best Italian players they could get and they were at a premium.
  13. The atmosphere drop off was the same everywhere in that time frame. Leeds from probably the most intimdating place 89-92 to sterile by the mid 90s. Part all-seater stadiums, part the price paid for sanitising the game. Least we had the excuse of expectation levels. The atmosphere was incomporably worse 89-91 too, probably an all-time pre-Ashley low, but he's included that?
  14. Harry Kewell, Darren Anderton
  15. Speaking of underrated players
  16. Andreas Moeller, Marc Wilmots, Robbie Earle
  17. Balotelli, Owen, Pogba - was proven right on all three predictions, all sizzle and no steak also Beckham, great at a right-footed free-kick/cross (same skill) and diving and scamming instead of having to beat somebody (which he couldn't)
  18. Depends on what each of our objectives are. For those of us that are fine with midtable, no relegation battle and looking to Europe, Dubs, Targett and Burn are fine for that. Be looking at too much of a new team to upgrade them specifically, though there's too much smoke about a keeper. New centre-back is pretty imperative. I'd see whoever it is as partnering Schar/Burn whilst one of them replaces Lascelles. CF, CM, CB.
  19. Bizarre when we got 52000 every week in the championship under Ashley when we were sh1t just a few years ago. They're probably referring to the very relevant few years during a boycott in the early 90s late 80s. Whilst ignoring the fact Maine Road was full once in a blue moon then and into the PL era. 20. Wonder if there's a paralell between Robert and ASM. Robert could be frustrating under Sir Bobby because we had little room for improvement and his working harder could be a crucial percentage point for us, whereas under Souness you'd sacrifice that gladly for his assists and set pieces because there was massive room for improvement and naff all else. ASM is now, a worse version of Robert under Sir Bobby where he was Robert under Souness under Bruce.
  21. Sad obligation of a procession of a game in bored ground. Was always a total write off. Serves those in the media right for building it up like it would be anything other than what its always been.
  22. I said second time around in fairness
  23. Opinion was mixed on Baggio with Juve and Italy when he was the best player in the world. Got injured, couldn't get back in the side, Juventus won the league for the first time in 10years, sold him, won the champions league the year after, went on to dominate. Depends if you want to marvel over a beautiful footballer like Baggio or improve the team and have a better chance to win things.
