  1. Was like a testimonial. Think we'd forced five good saves in the first three minutes or something.
  2. You can't go touting decent scouting and suggest Batshitiya surely.
  3. Just watched QPR at home again, experienced at the time as about an average performance, game and atmosphere. Blew my mind how good it was - game was non-stop, atmosphere strong and incessant after some second-half controversey and more dominant than I remembered in the nerves. Anything after that Easter Saturday game is all pain however you're right.
  4. Could have done without all this 5 wins in a row at home and Sir Bobby's record business trying to jinx things, Its going to be exactly like Wolves I fancy, pretty sure ASM is only starting one of the next two and can't figure out which would be for best. More minutes for Gayle against his former club would sit well too
  5. Just seen the link to this on the 'favourite Newcastle game thead' and thought I'd mention that in English Y11 we were given the task of writing a short story with the title "safe". Usually I'd have writers block but this came to mind pretty quickly and got it down, ending with...."we were safe". Got it cringingly read out as an example of story telling, wrote stuff like the tickertape resembled Buenos Aries circa 1978. Wish I'd kept it honestly, the only time I put any thought into anything the last 4years was there.
  6. David Kelly's penalty against Cambridge for his hat-trick, Peacock was the taker but Kelly was on a hat-trick and the crowd willing him to get it chanted an impromptu "Kelly, Kelly" demand. Peacock finally relented. Pressure all round on that kick, he scored, and Peacock got his goal anyway later on. Tino's second v Metz. Controlled a goal kick perfect, mazy run through defenders but the nonchalant 'this is too easy and I'm bored' finish made it. Clark finishing off about 25 passes against Sheffield Wed in 96.
  7. Vagueley remember hearing it was designed to do so but can't imagine it being battle tested whilst Man United played. (*or when Villa and Liverpool only half-filled it for their semi) At the first semi against Sheffield United I wondered whether accounting for the likes of us bouncing around it had been taken into consideration.
  8. Rotherham are the latest to be cursed by wasting their time on that competiton.
  9. Probably also the aforementioned Leicester 7-1 (more than one reason) and Barcelona Tino. Shout out again for the Villa 5-1 in 94 - great stories. Spurs 3-3 in 95 is about perfect, had eveything, good quality, great atmosphere. and Stoke away in 95 - watched it back a few times, its just liquid football
  10. That's it I'm getting into gambling
  11. O'Brien #1 at the mackems is under-rated. Coming out of the midfield minefield of a derby in those days to measure that sublime chip so precisely was so out of context. Hottiger's pre-Roberto Carlos Roberto Carlos at Blackburn in the cup is up there too, hated them for whatever reason at the time so was like my derby. Also let out an orgasmic eek when Clark cocked to score the winner - so you'd have to consider that a favourite
  12. That shirt is a homage to their away shirt 90-92, I think the first time they wore it was at Anfield in that 4-0 loss (Beardsley hat-trick wasn't it?), so think it will be 4-0.
  13. Yep. Expected applause but signing YNWA was very cool. Any like dislike or respect of CR redundant in this regard, I'm sorry for him and good luck to him and his partner.
  14. They were my halcyon days 92-98, lodged in the memory, and go to's for references.
  15. 94/95. 6th would have been enough if Blackburn were in the CL and Man U in the CWC.
  16. Lumped into the same category of sized club as Plymouth and Bolton and not as a dig.
  17. Must be weird for you mate. Caught between Liverpool and Man City going for the title. Things really do come right around. Its like that time we murdered Blackburn when they were going for the title, was better for us if Blackburn beat us and win the league and Man U win the cup (go into the CWC) and we'd be in Europe........if you times its by a million
  18. Yes. I'd have had him here were it not for Rob Lee, maybe as an alternate with the multi-pronged assault on all competitions. Very consistent, plenty of goals, good in the air and in that team, in a better more ambitious team he may have been top level. Thought it may happen with his being good mates with Barton and speaking well of us.
  19. Apparently they went 10 games unbeaten at the start of this season. Bruce wasnt in charge We went 9 games without a win at the same time. Bruce was in charge.
  20. The mighty Rafa and the fella at Bournemouth finished 1st the last time they were in that league. And everyone else Bruce hates is mint too.
  21. the Shrews versus the Rats
  22. Maybe a flag displaying our record pre Howe and post Howe with a superimposed face on a cricket appeal titled "Hey media....HOWEZAT?!?!" since it'll be well in cricket season and they like a link. We can't do a Tiote homage incase it upsets Clive 'Dr Zauis' Anderson again then again maybe not.
  23. Kelly might still be my favourite ever player and I suppose an underrated legend, would have loved to have been there to witness that. A flag of Tino holding up the corner flag would be interesting, artistically, like a dream within a dream sort of thing.
