Regarding Emery's style not being suited to league football, I don't really get it?

Tactically sound managers will probably go further in cup competitions (which Emery is), but yesterday just seemed like they got their press triggers completely wrong. That would be the case regardless of whether you're playing in the PL or in a cup final [emoji38]

Different styles suit different competitions but it seems like a bit of a reach to just group 'league' and 'cup' into two seperate categories and declare they can go far in one but not the other due to how they press. They'll be limoted in both unless they get the right plauers for the system.

I haven't watched football in years so what I'm about to say might be outdated pov.

I think not suited is probably not the best way to describe it, I would say he has certain limitations which prevent his teams from reaching a certain ceiling.

Which is fine, not everyone can coach teams to play amazing football and get results and I'm sure no fan of a team he coached is complaining about the trophies he won over the years.

Tonali - Is he really better than Longstaff?

Barnes - The Jury is out... Relegated with his last club doesn't bode well with me.

Livramento - Madness we already have a right back!!

Me: Let's check in on NO, I don't really watch football anymore but they must be upbeat about the new season and generally pretty happy right?

Also what makes him such a good striker tbh. He's Brazil's no 1 striker, he has a proven pedigree in the premier as well. It looks like petulance, but he should probably be at a club where he's first choice. Spurs was a poor choice in hindsight.

Absolutely, like that confidence is what gets these guys to where their at. I haven't watched any games at all so idk the situation but i absolutely think he believed he would get more game time than he seemingly has.

Surely he knew he was going to be a bench player though when he signed. He joined a team with the golden boot winner alongside the England captain.

His no goals in the league this season hasn't helped him

Most footballers (professional athletes in general) have irrational confidence bordering on arrogance so likely not.

You being won back round, Mole? Thought you'd ditched football

Kinda have, I haven't really watched any games in ages. But I'm just chilling on my day off reading up on everything.

It's cool seeing how much happier everyone is these days.

    Worth a view.

I find it VERY difficult to be sympathetic to a fan base that supports a team who spends 70m+ on a single player.

City are obviously in their own league with this stuff but I struggle to feel sorry for Liverpool.

It's not that at all, he's just massively under qualified to be an expert analysis on a serious football channel.

You can watch a dozen YouTube channels which are 1000 times more informed than Paul Merson.

I suspect Sky are keeping him on out of sympathy for his addiction.

I honestly don't think they care about expert analysis though, if they did they would get way different guests on.

  8. Does he? He's scored 15 league goals in a season once his whole career and 15 or more in all comps 3 times.

I feel like he isn't as prolific as the teams he plays for suggests he should have. Obviously miles better than anything this team has had in a long time tho.

  9. Koeman must have really f***ed Messi off like

Bonkers how they've got pretty much everything wrong for about 5 years now, just astonishing levels of ineptitude.

Hope he leaves them for f*** all, they deserve it what they've done to the peak of his career.

As you point out, i severely doubt Koeman has much to do with this decision.

I'm just surprised it didn't come sooner, they've rested on their laurels because they had the best player in the world.

Eventually he was going to come to the conclusion enough is enough.

  10. Almost speechless at all this, like. It's monumental decision after monumental decision..... nothing ever stops sports. Storms, war, terrorism, tragedies etc. Sports always continue regardless. This must be huge.

World war would, that's the point. This is a world wide problem. Thus the need to be proactive.
