It does, my point is just that player motivation specifically for a cup final and CL push is very different (and easier) than player motivation in our current circumstances. They almost couldn't be any more different in fact.

Don't think it's having it both ways if it's a case of player motivation and the circumstances are very different. One is a situation where the motivation is winning a final, then going for CL before a break and another where the motivation is a slim chance of Europe followed by a World Cup they'll want to stay fit and injury free for until then. That's before getting onto loads of the players not being the same from last season, and whose left too.

The appeal to majority argument will never work on people with firmly held convictions on things, especially if one of those convictions is that the majority can often be unbelievably myopic, easily convinced, and fickle.

Last World Cup final takes some beating for just about every box you could tick, but in terms of quality of football this is as good.
