  1. Could well be wrong but I think this one is dead now. 4 bids if that’s true shows we really want to sign him but every player has a financial point where it doesn’t make any sense.

We need a body in but it doesn’t have to be a “purple”

Not saying Brighton would sell him but someone like Lewis Dunk would just slot straight in and can pass a bit.. £15m or there abouts and you’ve got cover and experience there for 2 years.

  2. We were really poor yesterday, a promoted team coming here and playing us off the park isn’t a great look.

But am choosing at this point to believe that we were instructed to sit back and play counter which were good at.

But again.. and I’ve made this point so many times. Why does it always look like we have to work harder than any other team to pick up a win?

Man for man we have a better midfield than Southampton but they were literally in our half (before the sending off) with one of their players with his foot on the ball deciding whether to pass left or right.

Yeah I noticed that as well.. absolutely lifting.

Didn’t see the match at all though. Did they line up any differently to Klopp era?

  4. Are Palace affiliated with any of the cartel? Just seems like they are fucking with us.. there was a bit of disrespect from some clubs immediately after the takeover and maybe this is just something similar.

I like the player but not at the price. We should walk away unless the problem is just a small detail.

Agreed, some tidy touches and good awareness of what's around him.

Fulham very poor though. Like what was said above, good teams will murder them if they keep playing like that.

Maguire's fee is hardly some sort of benchmark. It was laughable at the time. Just yet another example of Man Utd massively overpaying for a player.

Oh they got rinsed but at the time I don’t remember much mockery at the fee, more so a resignation that we’d never be able to compete for transfers like that.

All I remember was (roughly within the same time frame)

    Maguire - 80m - dud

    VVD - 75m - transformative

I’m guessing Guehi might be somewhere in between

They’re English football’s most successful club - and Klopp’s trophy haul with them can be counted on one hand.

He’d be a legend on Tyneside - but he’s not a Ferguson or a Wenger, nor is he a Shankly or a Paisley

The league was nowhere near as competitive when either Liverpool had their run or Man Utd from the 90’s on.

Which nullifies your point. The fact they won anything while City have bought and broken rules to dominate strengthens his case in my opinion.

I grew to detest him but I can’t deny that he’s one of the best managers the league has ever had.

£50m itself is an incredible fee for him imo. There’s no doubting his ability but he’s nowhere near a £70m player.

But what does it even mean? Maguire was 80m and very highly rated when he signed for Manchester United, it turned out to be a trash transfer but that doesn’t negate that he was very very good for Leicester before that.

We could spend 40m on Guehi and it turn out to be a massive waste of money.

But that’s essentially what we’re buying.. Maguire at Leicester potential (albeit he’s got more pace, but nowhere near as good in the air)

If it’s 65m and he turns out to the final piece of the jigsaw, that could end up looking cheap. There’s no way of knowing until he’s actually here and had a chance to contribute.

  9. Don’t even care at this point. We need someone in as like someone else pointed out earlier, we’re fucked if Schär gets injured early in season.

If this deal can’t happen, we need to be moving on quickly.

  10. 50m with some weird add ons isn’t a bad deal.. but more than that and it’s time to walk away.

Now we tend not to deal publicly like this with bids and what not so it feels off. May this is how Mitchell likes to deal.. but I doubt it. We just make an agreement and wrap stuff up. Anything that’s ever dragged on this long has turned out to be bullshit, or we got cold feet. Or player didn’t want to come (French git)

But only thing about this transfer is that it would be a statement.. and maybe that’s only reason we’re still at the table.

He was superb against liverpool and was subbed after 65 minutes.

They started coming into it after he went off.. pace wise he was the only one who could keep up with them.

Can’t really judge him on last season because he must have known what was coming a few weeks before the world did, how does that not affect your game?

  12. Is his contract up at end of season or 2 more years left?

He won’t like being second or even third fiddle this season so I’m expecting him to be on it when he does get minutes on the pitch.

  13. It’s a big investment even for the likes of City or Chelsea.. and ManYoo have just spent big on the injured kid.. can’t see either Arsenal or Liverpool biting.

It gets done and I think the number is agreed, it’s how the number is delivered that’s holding up the deal.

    Was he any use?

He was unplayable in some games. Very few players in world football have that in their locker.

He’s underachieved throughout his career though.. and include coming here to Mike Ashley’s NUFC w/ Steve Bruce at the helm.

There’s a reason why the big clubs never wanted to sign him which is same reason why we upgraded that position first chance we got. It’s more down to consistency than work ethic or “being a team player”.

  15. Great! He’s a little rough around the edges but hopefully training with Isak will spur him on to improving on first touch and decision making. He’s got pace to burn and very strong.. hopefully he can kick on.

  16. Time will tell with City but I think they were a stronger team/squad 2/3 seasons ago.

If Haaland can stay fit they’ll be ok but they’re not bulletproof like they were.

  17. Is there a point where this becomes a bad deal? I highly doubt we’re going in much more than 50m regardless of whatever Palace think they may get.
