We’re owned by the public investment fund of a country where homosexuality is punishable with the death penalty.  We’re also the only PL side which didn’t take part in a ludicrously easy exercise to support LGBTQI+ players and supporters.  This is one of those moments where the criticism seems pretty reasonable to me.

and if they do it at our home game vrs Aston Villa........then what?

Exactly why it needs to be done again.

I think we'll be doing it for the villa game, our home game. Still, missed opportunity and attracted criticism when a simple image or a retweet of the PLs would have sufficed.

Play the game...(It's all that it is, all this is token gestures and virtue signalling) no club actually cares about anything but themselves and £££...which is another conversation, however, we need to be doing it more than others due to what's behind our curtain.

Last two pages of this thread are hunting for a reason to be critical IMHO.   Very strange.

We’ve given a game to every team we’ve played, home and away. We’re one 98th minute goal from being unbeaten. I’m not scared of anyone.

oh a hard lad are we...............pathetic!

As much as those journalists don’t want to hear it, Eddie doesn’t really care about the Saudi ownership. If he did he wouldn’t have taken the job.

The ownership have maintained a degree of separation from him that allows him to simply be focused on the football. Although as he’s the easiest target for them as he’s has to give a press conference every week.

He answers their questions quite honestly. Obviously there is more to us travelling to SA, but as far as the footballing side of club is concerned the warm weather training worked last time so it would seem a good idea from a football perspective to do it again.

I'm not fully comfortable with the SA ownership but it’s happened and it should have been the govt or FA that stopped it.

What do they want from us? Just to stop existing as a club? They own us now and bar the govt making a decision like with Chelsea that’s not changing any time soon.

Mate, the MSM are parasites.  They all have an agenda on any issue sports, politics whatever.   Its not about informing any more, its about trying to own the narrative and get others to subscribe to it.

    Just ignore it all.

So long as it's relatively tasteful, I can be bough off with the promise of larger transfer kitties/more for wages.

So PornHub @ St James isn't out of the question then.   At half time they can put some videos on the main screen.....possibilitlies are endless.

The day of that Wolves game I, somewhat inexplicably, was in a jazz bar in Moscow with a pretty girl I had met the week before. In hindsight, it should have occurred to me that when she readily agreed to come to a bar that showed the Premier League that she was interested, but I was stressed because my bank card was acting up and so I had to politely ask her to pay for each drink, promising to pay her back next time. I don’t know if it was a language thing, but each time this news was met with a sort of breezy compliance, as though it were the first time she was finding it out, but it was fine because my harried foppishness on the subject reminded her of Hugh Grant films from the nineties.

Looking back, it seems odd that I was still interested in watching our game. Maybe we all now feel like we were a bit more removed than we truthfully were, or perhaps it is just more of what I have always thought of as football’s primary service: To give shape to one’s weekend, which is especially crucial when you’re in a different county.

Either way, I didn’t actually watch it. There was a power cut in the pub, so we went next door to a rock bar. Rock bars in Moscow in 2021 were basically rock bars in Newcastle in 2004, and we listened to a lot of listless mid-noughties  indie. Later I was verbally pushed around by a group of burly Russian men demanding a go at my vape in front of her. The next day- and I never did see her again- she texted that we should have went to my place to watch the football.

And the thing is, if it had been post-takeover, I would absolutely have suggested that. I would have suggested it even if I had been sure she would say no, and in my assertiveness would have no doubt established myself as an even greater sexual prospect in her eyes.

That I did not do that is all Steve Bruce’s fault. Thanks Steve.

Then the Wednesday and the Thursday and where were you. Like others, I experienced that ‘Was it a dream’ feeling waking up on the Friday morning, after about an hour and forty five minutes of sleep. I remember somebody on here making the point that in reality it is probably the best news a football fan can experience- it was the promise of an immense journey, I am not sure it will be beaten by a trophy, to be honest, because that will already be in the past the morning after. This was all future, and still is really.

Still wish I’d shagged her, like.

  8. What a year - the progress on and off the pitch is just mind blowing it really is.   If we are in the top 7 come January I think that transfer window will be used to get 2 more top level players into to try and secure a European spot.   It just so exciting ............and that's the main thing, the hope and excitement has returned after the Ashley years!

To the consortium, thank you for everything so far!

I must be forgetting the Saudi led takeover which fell on its arse due to a labour government doing fuck all?

The ‘story’ here is about Boris lying to parliament.

Politician lies in Parliament - well fuck me backwards....never saw that coming!

  10. is it safe to comment now - stayed away from all forums yesterday.

We have been beaten once this season.  Yes, we need to turn draws into wins but we are in the process of rebuilding and I think its clear to most that we are in transition:

    - 1st eleven all fit - we are a top 10 side, possible a Europa spot

    - Subs - we are a bottom 10 side

We are transitioning from a 20% possession side to 60%+ possession side.    Last season everyone had a go at us and we could catch them on the break.   This season, especially at home, teams are going to sit back and defend and we need to be able to handle that.  That will take some time.

Until we have subs other than Murphy, Longstaff, Ritchie etc then injuries to our attacking players are going to impact results.

This is where we are in my view and so people just need to be patient.  It going to take more than 2 transfer windows to remove 14 years of neglect.

    Final thought:

To realise how bad 14 years of Ashley have left us, look at the players leaving.  Not one of them has brought in a fee.  NUFC is having to give free transfers or paying salaries just to get them away from St James.  Our squad was so shit.

    Because it doesn't solve anything

Its better than what this is were everything is reviewed by VAR.  There is no spontaneity about the games now.  You can really celebrate as the dreaded VAR is always watching.  Wont change the crap refs at VAR, agreed.
