Let’s just do it, win the league, and refuse to compete in the CL if we are in breach of their rules - it won’t be a good luck for them if (hypothetically) the PL champs refuse to take part and it will only encourage another start up to rival it, eventually UEFA will change their rules too

This is the thing, we brought Krafth on instead and still shipped 3 goals. Can’t imagine it would have been more if Hall had come on originally.
just give him some starts man
-
So so poor
-
What the fuck. Centre back is top priority now with RW.
-
It’s irrelevant anyway because even with Burn in the team, we are shipping goals so we may as well continue to ship goals and have someone offer more in an attacking sense.

Far too slow upstairs to be able to play anywhere away from wide areas where he has the time and space he needs to be able to see and execute event the most simplest of passes. The man has a built in 2 second lag.
The passage of play today where he dribbled the ball 40/50 yards directly towards Miley who had overlapped wide was abysmal. He closed down Miley's time and space before nudging the ball poorly in his direction.
Loads of other examples of tripe play. Felt like he gave the ball away the majority of times he got it.
Another one when hall had made an overlapping run in space and he tried to pass inside instead and lost the ball. Should be a bench player next season

The logic of them leaving if we don’t get Europe makes no sense, as we weren’t in Europe when they signed for us and I’m sure they weren’t expecting CL so soon.

Really don't think he'll make the grade, but would be very happy to be proved wrong.
Based on what?

Longstaff and Almiron have had contract extensions since Howe arrived.
If he prioritised technical he wouldn’t have bought Tonali or Barnes.
Is Tonali not technical? He’s certainly more comfortable/skilful with a football than the majority of our squad from what I’ve seen so far.

These are his players. His style of play isn’t technical anyway.
Half of them were already here.
Almiron, Longstaff, Murphy etc.
others were necessary buys at first I.e burn.
he has signed trippier, tonali, Bruno who can all play.
his style of play isn’t technical because it can’t be right now due to personnel.
-
He gets the summer window and the first part of next season for me, regardless of how this season ends he’s earnt that. I believe he will be more flexible with styles of play once we have more technical players.
Currently we have a handful who are actually good at using a football, the rest are just athletes

Isn’t Uefas just wages to revenue? Whereas currently transfer fees and wages contribute to the allowable losses?
so in theory we could spend whatever we want on transfer fees as long as the wages are sensible?

Great read. Love Gordon. Howe is a real gem isn’t he

Even more bizarre when you add Targett to the list. Was he £15 million? That's £50 million on left backs and not one of them plays.
We haven’t spent the money on hall yet - this season is a loan

The most logical solution for me is that we signed him not for the immediate future and the first year being a loan helps with that.
he gets 12 months in and around the squad, purely focusing on developing into a full time LB. Then, next season when the actual transfer kicks in, he is ready for regular game time.
Still believe this is the case after Eddies comments today

If we're going to keep gunning for the top six then we need, in order of priority:
Critical
Fresh competition for Isak
Desirable
Cover for Schar and Botman
Cover for Bruno
An upgrade at right-wing
If possible
New left-back
More tactically-suited cover for Pope
The last three are dependent on outgoings. If we can cash-in on Almiron or Murphy, then now's the time, and they move on with a lot of love and thanks. If Dubs wants to be first choice somewhere; again, good luck to him. Left-back... we've got three in Burn, Targett and Hall so I'm not sure we see more recruitment there but it would be ideal if so. Burn won't have played at CB for two years by the time next season arrives.
I’d say a new RW is critical personally, Miggy/Murphy no where near good enough

Was great today, constantly causing trouble. First half he played 2 lovely passes which should have resulted in a goal (Burns chance) and one for Bruno who couldn’t get a shot away.
Great work rate and constantly creating for us, by far player of the season.
-
Really grates me that people are against it purely because he’s related to Howe.
we know nothing about how good he is at his job, I’m fairly confident under this ownership that any role is handed out on ability rather than ‘because they are family’.

im being a little mischievous here, and I’m only quoting you NWM for the wording, not directing this to you.and for the record I do not believe Eddie is bang average.
but… there is a fair bit of comment on how the players who got us to 4th last season are not good enough to take us forward and need to be sold. Reverting to type as above and last season was a move from the norm.
so why can’t the same be true for Eddie and what we are now seeing is the real Eddie, with the first 18 months being exceptional?
fwiw I said early in his tenure that I thought Eddie would win us a cup but wouldn’t get is the league. I stand by this. He’s done a phenomenal job to get us here, and I’ve a sneaky feeling that we’re going to get a nice draw this evening and will get to the final of the FA cup. I then have doubts on whether he has enough left to be the one who takes us forward again. Sometimes people just have a useful shelf life and ultimately lay the groundwork for the next person to benefit
It’s a valid theory to put forward, and you’re right in the sense that overachieving isn’t limited just to the players.
however I believe that a large part of them overperforming was down to Howe.
As said I do have faith in Howe, however I do acknowledge that he also needs to evolve and make improvements to himself if he is going to reach the top.
-
Eddie isnt immune from criticism and he isn’t helping himself with a few of the decisions he is making, but some of the comments (not necessarily on here) are way overboard.
we massively overachieved last season. This season, as poor as the performances have been recently, we are still fighting for a European spot, and in a fa cup QF, when you add the context of the CL draw and the injury crisis, we are not doing too bad.
A lot of the problems that were evident to me last night is a lot of our squad are bang average at best; last season they overperformed but have now reverted to type. Longstaff, Murphy, Burn, Lascelles etc.
Howe is not in control of players decision making. He can’t control Lascelles missing the ball completely leading to their goal. Every time Murphy got the ball he didnt know what to do with it and slowed the play down. Similar with longstaff.
the fact is it will take time to revamp the squad to where we want to be.
I still have faith that Eddie is the man.

Can’t wait for him to come back and last 2.5 games

Our FFP means we're not really in a position to pay £28-£35m for a player who "will come good" We need players that can make a difference now. The fact that he's not been getting a sniff all season shows he's way off what we're expecting from him/
This is a very baffling transfer.
This season is a loan, so the fee doesn’t kick in until the summer. For all we know come August he will be ready for regular first team minutes.

Wasn’t Jude Smith highly rated when we signed him?
