Er, no... that's not what he's saying at all. Unless of course your agenda only allows you to hear what you want to hear.

    These things align...

    • The injury in the Brentford game was considered very minor... a little bit of swelling and then absolutely fine. Sven felt perfectly fine, so there was no suspicion that anything was in any way seriously wrong.
    • That changed in the Sheff Utd game.
    • He saw 3 specialists.
    • There was some level of disagreement over the severity, but ALL AGREED that rest was a perfectly acceptable course of action.
    • When Sven started playing again in January, his scans were considered perfectly fine and he was cleared to play (by ALL parties).

The only difference between what Downie is saying and what I've been told is that his ongoing scans have been perfectly fine with no need for concern. I'm literally 100% sure of that, and I know with 100% conviction that Downie is incorrect on that one.

    1. Yes, that's true... Sven and the club made the decision based on every specialist's recommendations and multiple ongoing scans.
    2. Depends on how you define "fully recovered". It takes months of playing to feel, in your own body, "fully recovered" from any relatively complex injury, even once you're cleared to play.
    3. With every complex injury, and this one is no different, you have regular ongoing scans to make sure that everything is holding up as it should. His latest scan, as of just before the Wolves game, was perfectly fine (the word I was told was "clear") and the specialists cleared him to continue playing. I know this to be 100% true... I literally have ZERO doubts.

I heard the intial scans all showed something wrong to varying degrees, the club were happy for him to have surgery, he thought he could rest it, the other injury situations at the club played into that decision and now he’s out for another 6-9 months after playing like shit and looking nothing like he did before the injury for a couple of months.

Most of this aligns with everything I've been told... although I would dispute his assertion (reasons below) that he's been actively playing with a "partial tear". As I've said previously, he's had regular scans over the last few months to make sure that he's fine and able to keep playing (the last one being just before the Wolves game), and every one of them has been reassuring and in the words I was told... "clear". Now, I obviously haven't seen the scans and I'm not a doctor, but I'd be highly surprised if "clear" equals "partial tear"... which leads me to believe that that part is incorrect from Downie.

Not sure how they align when you were told it was all ok and the new injury came out of the blue when Downie’s description sounds like they made every wrong decision from start to finish.

    Spelling bee finals.

The only finals I can think of hosting are Rugby or Football. You’re not getting a Uefa final away from Wembley and you’re not getting a Rugby final away from Twickenham, other than ones we’ve already had.

A few is better than none. And stadium gigs are just one of many extra sources income.

Sunderland are nicking the big concerts. They’ve got one this year.

Became its servicing the same market: arena size gigs in Newcastle. Stadium shows are a completely different market.

Fair enough but no clubs in England are having more than a few concerts a year. Needing a new stadium for that doesn’t seen worthwhile.

A new stadium with purpose built acoustics not full will create a better atmosphere than a sold out SJP. I’ve witnessed that personally last summer in USA.

They are building the new arena similar size due to land footprint. Lack of funding. Target audience of bands they are trying to attract which they could fill on a daily/weekly basis(medium) as they don’t have football as there main source of income.

Its the bigger artists SJP could scoop up with a better acoustic and light set up during the early summer. Not to mention host various high profile sporting finals.

What high profile sporting finals could they have? There hasn’t been a uefa final in England outside of Wembley since it was rebuilt. We’ve had Rugby finals as well as international games in rugby and football.

  7. People wanting to play in a not full stadium yet moaning about the current atmosphere doesn’t make much sense.

How many concerts do other clubs have? Spurs have three listed this summer and can’t remember other clubs having more than that. Also got the rugby union european finals which St James had recently. Is only the nfl in addition to that and probably no more of those games to go around.

If concerts are such a big draw and money spinner why are they building the new arena near enough the same size as the old one?

  8. I don’t think anyone wants him sacked but he’s not got the previous experience/achievements to be untouchable for where the club want to be.

If any of the current top 7 sacked their manager I don’t think he’d be considered by any of them if he was available. Maybe Tottenham.

[emoji38] fuck it, this is just getting stupid

You should probably let every club in the world know that you watching a game and looking at the score is a better indicator than xg.

That Miley sub on then off is just daft

And not using Ritchie to take a penalty. He’s getting every decision wrong at the moment.

  11. Getting Bournemouth promoted was a great job. But if you get relegated 5 years later, signed 40 players in the meantime and still playing half the team you got promoted with I don’t think you’ve signed very well.

Eh? His recruitment was the reason they went from League 2 to a 5 year stay in the Premier League.

Agree with that. But they didn’t get any better in the five years they were there. When he needed to sign Premier League players he struggled.

  13. I think Howe seems a good cunt and will be disappointed when he leaves but the way he’s handled some things this season (general approach away from home, Lewis Hall, Dan Burn/Livramento) and the comments when Ashworth left (and having his nephew working in recruitment) does suggest he wants more of a say in recruitment. His recruitment was a big reason he got sacked at Bournemouth and the manager shouldn’t be anywhere near signing players at a big club these days.

  14. I think Howe is conning people with Burn. Before the Forest game he talked about how much Burn offers tactically when i’ve never seen him play like anything other than a normal left back (other than being ridiculously tall for a full back). Near enough every team in the history of football playing a back four would have one fullback stay deeper if the other was high up the pitch. Then a day later he does change tactically, Trippier going into the middle of midfield in possession and Burn narrower in a back three and he still got done on the break for the 1st goal and a massive chance before that. The only thing he offers different to other options is height and he still plays at home to Bournemouth then gets left out against the best team at set pieces in the league away from home. Absolute certainty we hear about defending set plays for two days before Blackburn and he starts on Tuesday.
