He’s been one of our best performers lately, seems like one of the core groups of lads around the dressing room as well. He used to infuriate me at times under Bruce but remembering how he played for Rafa and since Howe came in it shows that he needs to be under a decent manager to have the best brought out of him, think he’s got a big role to play here for the next few seasons.

I think hes the biggest loss we could have had right now, it’s a real punt in the balls especially with Manquillo going out in the same game. Wood, Max and Joe the other 3 that are irreplaceable at the moment for one reason or another, fingers crossed we get a bit of luck with injuries for a few weeks.

That is interesting, this may suggest we are looking at moving to a back 5 longer term. Could also just be kept around for depth if he is happy enough to be moved away from a starting role in the back 4 over the summer with a new first choice CB(s) arriving.. got to be honest he was one I expected to be leaving.

Makes no sense putting Targett on the right instead of his natural position just to put Dummet at LB instead. Much rather have the best possible LB available play LB and work it out for the right side, if that means Krafth then so be it.

If Trippier is out for the season, 3. If it’s only a few weeks then 2.

We were disciplined, kept structure and shape well, energy levels were good and spirit obviously high. Defence was solid overall (besides a dodgy Krafth moment) even if Villa didnt ask many questions of them, progressively in the final 3rd we were pretty bad it just wasnt flowing well around their box at all some very slack attempts at key passes if they were attempted at all. We did very well to see the game out with those injuries when you factor in our record of dropping points from leads this season. Villa were rank mind but its grinding out results in those ugly games that count.
