Can't tell what's the difference, had a look and recognise more Wednesday players. Is there a reason the world class keeper is benched?

    Going to Liverpool for £60m.

Allison gonna have to put up with being second choice.

Sunderland have finished in the top 12 of English football only 3 times since 1955/56, the 2 back to back 7th place finishes under 'Reidy' and that 10th under Brewcy (where they passed up on the final day after our Pardew WBA home debacle), and all 3 of those seasons they were decently placed fairly well into the season.

1999/20 - they were 3rd heading into Christmas and 8 points clear of 6th place.

2000/01 - they were second after 23 (and 24 games)

And finally that weird season under Bruce in 2010/11 - they were 6th after 24 games, well clear of 7th, but then only got 1 point from their next 9 matches, and I think they were 13th or 14th on the final day before beating already relegated West Ham and passing 3 or 4 clubs (including us) to claim a lucrative 10th place finish.

So that's 3 fairly decent league finishes, or perhaps 2, in 70 years. If you got into football when you were like 8 or 9 then you'd have to be around 80+ years old to remember anything better, yet despite 3 top 12 finishes in 70 years (and counting, as they're unlikely to get there again anytime soon) I'd imagine many, or most, of their fans would consider them a top 12 club in the country.

In that same time period they've finished in the bottom half of the 2nd flight or in the 3rd flight 16 times

Not sure how many 0-0s we had at home that season but at the time as a 12/13 year old kid it used to feel like we drew 0-0 every week! Remember standing in some ridiculously low crowds back then. Remember a midweek game v Oxford towards the back end of the season (might have been game) and the crowd was 10,000.

Getting beat at home by Bristol Rovers sticks out as a particularly turgid performance. Devon White running riot .

6th is essentially down to us and Man Utd now

We both have 6 games left, play each other and we both play Sheffield United Burnley Palace and Brighton.

The only difference is we play Brentford, they have Arsenal.

  5. They've rekindled the Mourinho to the mags crack. It started off with a rumour that he's going to Liverpool, now it's all about how we need a big name manager and how he'll put us back 10 years

Thought they'd want to sort out their manager fuck up first

    Not *quite* true.

Anyone born from 1994 to 2010 could say they've lived through Sunderland being in the top flight more than outside it.

Outside of that range though, you're right and you have to go back to people born in or before 1950. (Yes I'm bored, but Excel meant it really only took about 5 minutes)

From 1891 to 1958 they were ever-present in the top flight. They have history - Just not in the memories of anyone who also can't remember Hitler's bombing raids.

Aye, didn't think of that. It'll be totally true in 7 years time.

Someone born in 2015 have lived most of their life with them being in the 3rd flight.

Sunderland’s continuing presence in the lower leagues next season means that for those of us born in 1982 they will have spent more than half our lifetimes outside the top flight.

I propose that they aren’t stuck there - it’s their natural home :)

You have to be at least 74 to have been alive when Sunderland haven't spent the majority of seasons out the top flight

I was born in 1969 and they've spent more time out the top flight in my lifetime.

This is the problem the sly 6 have now because of FFP/PSR, outside of themselves I cant seen any other team taking their "cast-offs" for big money anymore, they've created a monster now they may have to live with the consequences ...

We can name any price for any of our players and the so called big 6 know this. If we say we want £200m for Isak they know we mean it.

They are meant to be but they have players who they can offload for decent fees ESR probably being the prime candidate.

Also the new FFP rules are great for Arsenal when they come in.

Who can afford to pay decent money for ESR though? The clubs who will be interested can't splash out because of FFP.

Agbonlahor and O'Hara on Talksport (yes, I know) saying either Villa or Spurs will come in and get him for £60m in the summer

Sounds about right, find a generationally talented striker who's scoring at a better per-minute rate than Haaland and sell him at a loss after 2 seasons.

TBF that's just bad journalism. Talk Sport bosses must have really low standards.

Yeah. Fuck PSG. They shouldn’t even be here.

I’m bitter and twisted. So whoever knocks NUFC/England out. I want them to lose. But I suppose the other train of thought is. It shows how well we did in the group all things considered. When the two teams that got out. Are going to be in the semis.

And Milan will be the the EL semi

Wonder when the £80m bids are going to start pouring in for Clarke

We should put in a £15m bid. A year working under Howe and he'll be a good squad player for us

Football totally different to when Shearer was playing.  We have one of the best strikers in the league, and in Europe. End of.

He's outstanding, wouldn't swap him with anyone

Sign of the times that they were all tossing off after a goalless draw tonight.  I listened to the fan reaction on the radio as I drove home from work.

    They're playing for Doddsy
