It had a question mark!
-
Crikey, I get why none of the Eddie out guys were posting names now!
-
Yeah I'm not Howe out either, but someone was asking repeatedly for a list of options, those are some of them. It's virtually impossible to say if they'd be a success or not though right, but as they aren't knackers I'd hope they wouldn't burn the place down.
-
I don't want Howe out, but if you want a list of names who could have a go at doing a job and are realistic in the summer: Iraola Glasner Carrick (if he doesn't get the Man U job longterm) Nuno? Mourinho? Southgate? Alonso? I'm not convinced any of them would do a better job than Howe, but they also probably wouldn't completely fuck it up? I think Alonso might not be interested and Nuno would be a risk, but they are all realistic and not crap. There's bound to be more big names on the continent who I just don't know about as well, Le Bris has done well at Sunderland and he was hardly a household name. Point is there are options, are they better options? Probably not.

I can't see how he fits in the team, he feels like he needs to be in a technically brilliant team, could play the Kane role at Bayern for example, or would work at Man City. We need intensity, pace and power and he doesn't have that. He just needs to work on the goalscoring and positioning if he's going to be a success here, if he's in the right place and scoring goals, none of the rest matters. I don't think he works for us in the number 10 role, because the way our play, our midfielders and forwards all need to be able to press hard and break quickly, we cant carry someone physically if the press is to succeed, having him in just leaves a gap to exploit. If the wingers are the goal threat maybe he can work as the lone striker just linking it together, but I think just having another fast mobile player in that spot creates more problems than someone dropping deep to create space behind. Like I say, if he just gets back to scoring goals it doesn't matter that he doesn't really fit the system.

Bruce left with an enhanced reputation? His next two jobs were in the Championship and then in L1, hardly an upward trajectory. I'd argue Pardew and Benitez probably broke even in terms of rep going in and coming out and I'd agree Hughton enhanced his (because he'd never had a full time managerial job before us) but claiming Bruce left us smelling of roses is bonkers.

Wilson was really good at backing into defenders and winning a freekick. Isak's holdup play was non-existent, he used to drive me mad how little he would compete for the ball, obviously an incredible player, but battling holdup play was not his forte.
-
Would we even want one? It's not really how we play is it? It's all about fast transitions. Woltemade can kind of hold the ball up, but he's not incisive enough going forwards. We need someone quick who can press hard and finish the chances we create, Gordon is 2 out of 3 of those.

Without watching this (it's 47 minutes!!), taking race and gender entirely out of things here, Eni Aluko is a terrible pundit who falls over her words, makes stupid uninsigtful comments and generally makes the watching experience worse. Jordan comes across like an arrogant prick a lot of the time, but at least he knows what he's talking about and can express his opinion in an articulate way which I would think should be required to be a pundit. I'd 100% rather listen to him than her talking about football.
-
Yeah Tel was shocking all game and Sarr looked entirely disinterested, I thought they largely defended well though, lots of good blocks and defensive headers, first 45 mins was attack versus defence and they largely coped with it well, though the Thiaw goal was awful from them though that was Sarr all over last night. Xavi Simmons was their best player but the rest of the midfield just didn't help him.

The margin of error, like the thicker lines suggested previously makes it pass the reasonable test to me though so I think adding a margin of error to change the on field decision is the solution. It currently feels unreasonable that someone ahead of someone by an inch is gaining an advantage, it doesn't feel that way if they're a foot ahead of them. I don't think we should scrap VAR, I just think we should make sure it's doing what it was brought in for, correcting clear and obvious errors and not just fully refereeing the game.
-
I came up with a wild conspiracy theory yesterday when talking with my brother, that they actually want VAR to cause all of this uncertainty every time a goal is scored because it adds jeopardy which excites the neutral and fair weather fans and drives engagement as it gets people talking about it. It's incredibly frustrating when it's your team playing, but it definitely adds an element of uncertainty outside of that. I'm pretty sure I've gone full tinfoil hat but it might explain why they seem incapable of just applying common sense.
-
This is the answer, VAR should just be used to correct clear and obvious errors

Very interesting point, there's a fine line between the emotion that football elicits in all of us because it's so important to us all and not being able to cope with those emotions. I know personally I'm often severely negatively impacted in the moment and I'd think people would be lying if they said they weren't. A case in point yesterday, I was still annoyed about the disallowed goal at half time because it was such a daft decision even though we'd gone on to score another. I tend to be alright after sleeping on it, but football definitely creates some big emotions both positive and negative.

There's a good chance he sends one of his old clubs down
-
And how does that manifest on a thread about Eddie Howe the day after a good result?
-
I've said this before, but the gloating from the pro-Eddie crowd whenever we get a good result is really painful to see. We had a good result, the team were miles better, we still looked really nervous and shaky in the last 20 minutes, but Eddie made a lot of good decisions and I'm really pleased for him. I'm not sure why people can't just enjoy a good result and instead want to score points over people with a different opinion to them. People can have different opinions and that's fine, I'm not sure what you want. Do you want people to be coming here and apologising for ever daring to have a different opinion to you? Or do you want people to be coming on here and continuing to be negative? I just don't understand the mentality. I've been very negative about Eddie this season, though I'm not Eddie out, but I thought he got a lot right yesterday though there's still clearly a mental fragility that needs to be worked on. Fingers crossed we can use this result to get some of that monkey off our back.
-
He still looks like he's trying, plenty of effort, but yeah something isn't right, lots of misplaced passes etc. I don't think he's playing to leave but he's really out of form at the minute, maybe because of something mental, maybe it's just form.

We looked so nervous at the end, nearly as nervous as I was. Buzzing though! -

How well have Spurs defended though. Not sure why we can’t do it, but they’ve blocked everything. -

there's no way we win the Champions League and it's the 4th round of the cup and we do still need some more points in the league at some point
