  1. This Tottenham team is so weak and yet if you take out that 2 crazy Kinsky errors they are level 5-5 on aggregate. So it means Atletico Madrid is also poor. Uefalona gets the favour of playing against one of the weakest remaining side again.
  2. If that push on Elanga wasn't a penalty, how could this one be? Educate me.
  3. Tbf, a lot of Inter Milan fans celebrated winning the Serie A in similar manner in 2006. So I won't be surprised if some or even a lot of Moroccans celebrate this one.
  4. Just watched the highlights and all of the first 3 goals were comical to the extent that I wonder if it is match fixing lol
  5. Actually it's okay to do the standard H0/H1 hypothesis test, it is safe to assume that each draw is independent, so Cov(X,Y)=0 and Var(X+Y)=Var(X)+Var(Y) for any two draws X and Y. The variance of each draw can be calculated using the formula npq, for example in the FA Cup Round 3, there are 63 possible opponents and 6 of them are the Big 6, so the theoretical mean of this draw would be 6/63, and the theoretical variance would be (6/63)*(57/63). So the combined theoretical mean & sd of the 25 draws should be 6.12 & 2.03, pretty close to the Monte Carlo sample
  6. Just tried to analyze all of the domestic cup draws we had since 21/22 FA Cup to see how good or bad our luck were. We had 25 cup draws where the chance of drawing one of the Big 6 is larger than 0% but lower than 100%. 7 of them ended up drawing with one of the Big 6. It's hard to set up a simple H0/H1 hypothesis testing since the probability of drawing one of the Big 6 is different for each draw. Therefore, I ran a Monte Carlo sample of 10,000 sets of draws (identical to the 25 draws we had). The result is as follows: Sample mean = 6.15 Sample standard deviation = 2 So we are less than half a standard deviation more unlucky than what we should expect. It's slightly bad in terms of luck but it's nowhere as extreme as some others describe.
  7. That's a scenario that I think exercising the option to buy Ramsdale could make sense. Then offer him+££ for Trafford. Ramsdale's distribution ability should actually make him a very good choice as the back up keeper at a big club which is used to possession based football.
  8. As a guy who know a bit about math & stat, xG does actually provide some useful insights. Forest finished 14th in the xG table last season. Their expected points was 50 instead of the actual 65 points they got. They were massively lucky last season. This season is just mean reversion. Now they just go back to where they belong. Dyche did a pretty good job for picking up points here and there. Obvious madness from their owner again.
  9. I got the same feeling. Tbf I don't watch them play except against us, but if I just look at their statistics, they were 17th last year, they are 16th now. They only had the distraction of Europa League last year, and this year they have the distraction of Champions League and they finished 4th in the league phase - above the likes of Chelsea, Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid. They were also seconds away from upsetting PSG in the Super Cup. Many of us think that Howe is doing an excellent job, if you apply the same standard I suppose Frank is at least doing a decent job though not as good as Eddie?

Bournemouth fans may know what happened there much better than me, but apparently Defoe isn't too happy about Howe. https://talksport.com/football/857175/eddie-howe-jermain-defoe-forced-out-bournemouth/ Tbf his stats was much better with the Mackems (he was 33-34 there) and with Rangers (tho you could argue that the Scottish PL is easier).

I saw comparisons between him and Defoe when he signed, and I do agree that they are quite similar in terms of playing style. But I was also a bit worried because Howe worked with Defoe at Bournemouth, and it was a complete failure there. Maybe Howe just can't bring the best out of this type of players.

He's playing poorly but I think he scored more goals/90 in any of his 4 seasons at Brentford than this season? He scored a goal in his first start for us before fading. Woltemade also had an excellent start with us before fading so it's the same story. At this moment I will give the benefit of doubt to anyone, it's more about the way we play, we just can't give enough supply to our striker. It looks like even if we had Haaland or Mbappe they would struggle to score for us...
  13. I doubt if Tottenham will make it to the QF though. Both Atletico Madrid and Juventus seem better than them.
  14. I think it's more like Howe needs some time to figure out the right tactic for each game. Thus he tends to do better in cup competitions (where he could analyze an opponent for weeks) than in the league (where the schedule is more packed and he only has 1 week to analyze each opponent).
  15. Actually got a feeling that even if the Premier League is split into Northern England PL and Southern England PL, along with some teams from Championship getting promoted so each league would have 18-20 teams, both leagues would still have comparable or even marginally better quality than La Liga or Serie A.
  16. We will be the clear underdog against any of the current top 8 except Tottenham anyway
  17. Don't really think that deserves a penalty at all, but I'll take the goal.
  18. Won't blame Pope for this goal, but somehow I have a feeling that if it was Ramsdale then a lot here would be fuming about how Pope would have saved that goal.
  19. Their exact positions in the 2010s: 3, 4, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 5, 6, 5 Being satisfied about finishing 4th, just try to hang on to that position without showing any ambition, then not even able to get into top 4 by late 2010s That's football heritage, if I borrow Jose's terms. Financial wise, look at the notable players they sold in 2010s: Fabregas, Nasri, Van Persie, Alex Song, Sagna, Vermaelen, Giroud, Alex Sanchez They are not able to hold on to their best players at all. That's football heritage. And look at the list of players they bought for at least.....just £15m: Cazorla, Ozil, Alex Sanchez, Welbeck, Xhaka, Mustafi, Lacazatte, Aubameyang, Leno, Lucas Torreira, Saliba, Nicolas Pepe, Tierney That's the whole list. In 10 years. That's football heritage. How many Champions League quarter finals have these players played before they signed? I'm sure Ozil, Sanchez had played for Real Madrid and Barca. Welbeck surely played for Man Utd......as a backup. The later signings, I'm not bothered to check, maybe 0, or 1, 2 or 3 CL QFs combined. That shows the decline in the quality they could afford. That's football heritage.
  20. They had to sell their best players (Fabregas, Van Persie, Sanchez, etc) to rivals for multiple seasons Not being able to sign much world class players. They became irrelevant from contending title by late 2010s. Even 4th place finish looked like a distance dream. They had to change their culture to get back to the top. It's a fact.
  21. I'm sorry if you misunderstood what I mean by 'poor'. It is literally poor in financial terms. Performance wise, it was mediocre or half decent.
  22. Do you know how poor Arsenal was during the 2010s? They didn't get protected by PSR by default. They worked their way up to earn their spending power today.
  23. All of that applies to Arsenal as well.
