Well excited about this now. Live football! :smitten:

And I'll be there to witness Smith's first goal of many this season... :indi:

Only during the kick-in when the mascot goes in goal. :hmm:

I certainly don't. If he did, Keegan might get the idea hes a decent player and keep him in the squad. better to flog him for a few million quid

I think we might well see a formation like that, but with Butt and Smith rather than Geremi and Shola.

I wonder why neither Century or Radio Newcastle are picking up on these early friendlies. I reckon they'd still get decent audiences.

I think its because the club are broadcasting it on the radio and probably didnt sell the rights to broadcast pre season games to century or w.e.

Funny that because the home friendlies always have radio or even TV coverage.

A word of warning mate, (although i know you were only joking) I was at SJP to see this.

Super Smith's Debut Delight

NEWCASTLE UNITED 1

SAMPDORIA 0

Friendly

St.James' Park

Sundat, August 5, 2007

Kick-off 3pm

Craig Hope reports from St.James' Park ...

TOON new boy Alan Smith was the star of the show with a man-of-the-match display and debut goal as the Magpies ran-out 1-0 winners over Serie A side Sampdoria.

Smith, partnering former Leeds team-mate and fellow debutant Mark Viduka in attack, was combative throughout the game and got his reward with a second-half header from Geremi's corner on 59 minutes.

The 26-year-old got a rousing reception before, during and after the match from the Toon Army as he reverted to central midfield in the second period.

He could have had his debut goal earlier had it not been for a linesman's flag wrongly ruling out his close range effort after Ameobi's knock-down.

Oba Martins saw a penalty claim waved away but the Geordies were always in control after Smith's goal, only a Bellucci shot late on coming close to snatching a draw for the visitors.

Just to make it a little bit worse, I was driving up with a couple of non NUFC supporting mates coming to watch the match, the majority of the way (300 miles) I was berating/bemoaning the signing of Smith, My best mate is a Manure fan and absolutely loved it when he scored. Needless to say I was proved right all along throughout the course of the season. Bloody well wish i hadn't of been though.
