upgrading hardware in linux

My windows xp system gave up the ghost this week, so i finally got around to building a linux system.

 

SO far am impressed; seems to work faster than windows!

 

Havent played any games yet or tried to install much software.

 

 

If i change the gfx card installed (for onemy other newer ones)  does linux identify new hardware automatically, or willi have to tell it?  changing to card from diferent manuf  will it even boot up ?

 

am using opengeu linux, which is a version of ubuntu.
