Timothée Atouba (born February 17, 1982 in Douala) is a Cameroonian football player who currently plays as a left back for Hamburger SV.

He was part of the Cameroonian 2004 African Nations Cup team, who finished top of their group in the first round of competition, before failing to secure qualification for the semi-finals. Known for making things unreasonably complicated, Atouba signed for Tottenham Hotspur in June 2004 but although he played some promising games on the wing in his first few months at the club, scoring the only goal in a win at Newcastle United, he finished the season as an occasional left-back and was deemed surplus to requirements after only 1 year in London. Atouba's flamboyance and ball skill were recognized by Hamburg and he joined in July 2005.[1]

Atouba caused controversy after several rash challenges led to goals against his German club in the Champions League. After receiving some jeering from a disgruntled crowd he reacted by raising his middle finger to them, and asking to be substituted, having been substituted he repeated his actions and then received a red card.[2]

i think he is decent, though we can do better. bit of a flair player who provides something very different to Enrique, though this has a downside as he tries to play his way out of trouble with tricks too often.

We're desperately short in that area and he'd be good competition for Enrique, likes to attack so would be a Keegan sort of player.

Transfer has taken a twist apparently. According to Hamburg's press officer Atouba was due to fly to England for a medical but instead surprisingly turned up at the training ground and has been included into the squad for tomorrow's match now.

So it's off, or just delayed?

How has he played over in Germany out of interest?

Bit rubbish isn't he?

At left back he's ridiculously bad. As the article above said, "he's known for making things unreasonably complicated". He'd always try and play himself out of trouble. Put it this way, if the ball was right on the goal line, instead of just clearing it, he'd try about 3 step overs, followed by 10 kick ups, and then he'd attempt a clearance.

He's a little better playing left mid. He's reasonably fast and he's also a skillful player (in a clumsy sort of way).

Did surprisingly very well in his first season, been a bit inconsistent afterwards with being a bit temperamental.

I saw this one as a strong possibility as I suggested it in a few threads.

He was very young when he was at Spurs and has matured quite a bit since then. Besides he was never terrible at Spurs just a bit inconsistent.

First things first, he is a beast (6 ft 3). Very, very strong and does put his foot in. However, he is also technically gifted and does love to be in posession of the football. He will scare the hell out of you sometimes as he loves to dribble the ball/play the ball out of defence. He is quite flamboyant like that, it is fun to watch at times i.e. when you are up 2 - 0!

Geremi would have vouched for him, as would Chris Houghton. Prem experienced. Will be very affordable as he is in his last year contract wise. oh yeah ... he can also play left wing too as he is very attack minded and as I said loves to get on the ball.

Very solid signing. He'll enjoy playing for Keegan.

By  a bit inconsistent do you mean he was pretty much s****? And you'd think twice about signing him.

It means that he didn't have as many good games as in his first season with some really shocking displays. The good Atouba is a decent player though.

Will be interesting what comes out of this as with HSV having signed Jansen the opportunities will be limited for Atouba there.
