The house of Lords - not for the North East.

A shocking recent report has confirmed what many people already knew. The government in the UK is set up to benefit the population of London and the South East.

The North East region has the lowest representation in the unelected House of Lords than any other part of this country.

And London and the South East has the highest representation in the Lords, so no surprise there.

Apart from the fact that no one should be to have a say in the running of the country unless they are willing to put themselves up for election, the evidence that the Lords is packed with weatlthy southerners can offer no reasurance that our region will ever figure very highly in the decisions that outdated body of people will ever make.

The time has come to make the second chamber of the government of Britain elected and representative, it really is time for the North East to be treated fairly .

I wouldn't worry about all this, really I wouldn't. Because sometime in the coming decade, hoards of angry Pictish warriors will come storming down through the Scottish Borders, rampaging over the Cheviots to rape and pillage their way through the towns and villages of Northumberland, setting fire to the Nortumbrian children before stopping off at the Metro Centre to indulge in an "all you can eat" frenzy at Big Lukes restaurant.

of course they may be looking at addresses - people may have been resident in the NE when they were enobled but now live in Landahn

There's a huge difference between not wanting to govern ourselves and being governed by an unelected bunch of senile Southerners.
