Toon may lure Zola

Sep 7 2008 by Neil Farrington, Sunday Sun

GIANFRANCO ZOLA last night loomed larged on Newcastle’s wanted list as they launch the search for Kevin Keegan’s successor.

As hopes of King Kev returning to St James’s Park under a new boardroom regime receded.

United owner Mike Ashley would like to convince Italy and Chelsea legend Zola to choose the United manager’s job over the hotseat at West Ham and possibly placate fans furious at Keegan’s resignation.

Zola turned down an approach by United’s director of football Dennis Wise to join the club’s backroom staff earlier this year, but is now willing to leave his post as Italy’s Under-21 coach to enter full-time management.

And although the 42-year-old Sardinian was interviewed by the Hammers yesterday, his still close friendship with former Chelsea team-mate Wise has raised hopes he can be tempted to Tyneside.

Meanwhile, the prospect of Keegan returning to Newcastle under a new owner now looks remote, with Indian billionaire Anil Ambani cooling on the idea of a Toon takeover.

Representatives from Ambani’s Reliance Communications company are scheduled to arrive in England tomorrow to investigate the possibility of investing in a Premier League club.

Motivator?, liked by fans and players?, good communication with DOF

I think this could work!

Could have worked under different circumstances but any manager coming in now under the Ashley setup is never going to get a fair shot, the fans are so angry right now and the latest bollocks from the club has just made it worse.

Zola?

Why not Beardsley!

I'd agree with Beardsley actually. I am pretty sure he would be a shit manager, but we need one of our own to fuck things up before we will be ready to accept a foreign manager after Keegan.

Does he have any actual qualifications or experience beyond beng a mate of Dennis Wise?

From Wiki: 'He has also been named joint coach of the Italian Under-21 side with ex Chelsea player Pierluigi Casiraghi.' :dontknow:
