I'm starting this thread just to capture information on past events that have occurred in the North East on the very day you care to post. Owt you want to add, feel free.  As i was a fighter in 'Nam right up to 1975, I thought I'd start with something military related.  These are true events. 

 

Wednesday, 25th September 1940  DAY 389 of WWII

A Hurricane from 43 Squadron based at Usworth airfield in Durham, landed wheels up at Hetton le Hole following engine failure due to the mishandling of a fuel cock. Pilot Officer C.E. Langdon was unhurt, the aircraft was damaged but repairable.

 

Friday, 25th September 1942  DAY 1119

'SS Empire Bell' (1,744t) cargo ship, Tyne to Iceland, was sunk by U 442 W of the Faroes.
