Joey
If they're needing codecs i'd doubt they are mp3's. Try re-download them.

Joey
VLC aren't any good for mp3's. Ignore Role Model's advice and don't ignore Towelies
Syrette
You could always download a codec pack which should sort it and allow you to play more file types on WMP. Try the K-Lite pack - http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/KLite_Codec_Pack_Full/1094057842/3/ VLC aren't any good for mp3's. I thought the problem was that they're possibly not actually MP3s? VLC works fine with MP3s, it just doesn't look very good doing it.
Joey
Ok well fair enough, get VLC player if you do actually want to listen/view them particular files I was just on about playing mp3's in general.
Syrette
I was just on about playing mp3's in general. Fair enough, I prefer using WMP for most media file types too.
