GM
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackwell-Social-Political-Philosophy-Guides/dp/0631221271/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1228245258&sr=8-11 But HTT - I think you'd be better off just reading The Economist, The New Statesman etc - why the sudden interest in this sort of stuff? Moreover, what makes you think a simpleton like yourself could actually get to grips with it? :colo:

He pretty much got me my crappy useless sociology degree - mind you, I was a bit fucked off when I discovered some time after graduating that you could actually get one simply by collecting tokens on packets of Shreddies and sending a postal order for 56pence off to an address in Milton Keynes. They've simplified it since then. Every 3rd pack of shreddies has the diploma inside. You just send a text message to register it to yourself and print your name in biro. wacko
"Watching the English" is a great book about all aspects of the English, including the class system. Perhaps not technical enough for what you're after, but it truly felt like reading my own instruction manual.

I love Orwell. Despite over half a century passing since the books were written they're still so relevant to modern day society. The writing style is such that even those of us with no attention span remain hooked... the images he creates are so vivid and crystal clear that the points he makes rarely fail to hit home. You should give The Road to Wigan Pier a look. Reading that whilst listening to Lennon's "Working class hero" on loop could turn even Turnbull into a filthy red.
