Isn't it ironic...don't you think?

A dead man has won a $10 million (£6.9 million) jackpot in a US lottery.

Donald Peters bought two Connecticut Lottery tickets from his local grocery store hours before he died from a heart attack in Danbury, Connecticut.

His wife Charlotte revealed that the tickets had been bought for a ten-week stretch, so she had put them to one side while she dealt with her grief.

"I'm numb," she said, after cashing the ticket on Friday. "I was in the grocery store and I had it checked and they told me it was a winner. I had no idea how much it was."

The 78-year-old widow has 60 days to decide whether to take a $6 million (£4.1 million) pre-tax lump payment or stretch her winnings into 21 yearly payments of almost $500,000 (£345,000).

The Peterses' three children admitted that their late father would have appreciated the irony in the situation.

"He'd be very mad, he just passed away and she won a lot of money," said Brian Peters. "He'd say: 'Figures!'"

This song was obviously on in the background as he passed away, should at least play it at his funeral.

Bless him.
