Dokko
Of the heating kind, not the mingers. Got a Baxi combi boiler and the thing is as reliable as JFK's mouth in a press conference. The thing is forever breaking, i mean all the bloody time. We've been with the same guy for nearly two decades, he used to patch up our old boiler a lot to keep it going, then it was cheaper and worth doing. But it got to a time where we got another one, this baxi thing. We were promised a super reliable boiler that would only ever need servicing. So we've had this for ten years, and we have the twats out every 6 months for something or other. Enough really is enough and he's gone too far this time. We had a service 5 weeks ago. Before then everything fine for at least the last nine months, which is near a record. The service £100. Then two weeks later the circuit board blows costing us £150. then just last night the thing starts pissing water and needs a new valve £100, just for the valve. Had a go at the guy and didn't charge us labour but for fuks sake, anytime they go anywhere near to fix it something else breaks, i really wonder if its on purpose? The boiler cost £2k or something, in the last 10 years we've at least doubled that in costs to maintain it, somethings surely up? So anyone a heating engineer? Are we just unlucky? Are we being fleeced, and does anyone know of any cover like British Gas do (but cheaper) that will see us never paying for the fuking thing again? How about you ditch the boiler idea and use solar panels? Oh wait...

ChezGiven
Quick question (sort of related, apols TT). Moved into my new place and one of the radiators is making a sound like running water. Quite annoying. The temperature across the radiator is even so not sure if its air inside and they therefore need bleeding. Going to give it a go anyway, do i do it with the heating on or off? Presumably the water pump needs to be off when they are being bled?

You can bleed them at any time, just have a cloth ready where you are bleeding and a black water will come out a little when fully bled. (the air hisses out quite fast then the sound change detects its getting closer to fully bled, then turn the key and slow it down) I sometimes here water going through the radiators as well, not sure if its a common thing, but these have always done it. Disclaimer,..anyone stupid enough to take my advise, i bear no responsiblity, for damage to property, injury to persons, or death. good luck.

Guest toonlass
Advice from the lads please. Had the boiler serviced on Christmas Eve, back boiler behind the fire. Since then, and its happened a couple of times (but not all the time) when I put the hot water on to warm up there is a funny sound from the loft and when you turn the hot tap on the water is brown. I have tried running the hot tap for 5 minutes or so, but it just still comes out brown. Never happened before the service. Does this sound like a "phone the landlord" job, or should it sort itself out?

All sorts of things get into them i.e.e Pigeon poo , rats faeces etc.

Are you a private renting tenant or council/HA? Definitely your landlord in the latter case will deal with this sort of thing, but if private tenant it'll depend how good/crap your landlord is. Should be a healthy supply of drinking water to your property - that is as a basic minimum, surely?

The cold water is clean and clear, its just the hot water that occassionally (say three times since the boiler was serviced) that is coming through brown.
