davy_fulla
Looking for suggestions on some places to go with the missus and 1-year old son this week while I'm off work. I was originally thinking of a visit to Edinburgh zoo until I found out the monkey house is closed for a few weeks Our lass has suggested that sealife place at Tynemouth - would anyone recommend it? Any other suggestions welcome as I'm already sick of sitting in the house after one day off.

NE6
That sea life centre is wank. Bird of Prey centre at Kielder is a canny day out, the bait in the pub there is alright as well. Whitehouse farm, Morpeth?
Pilko
Whitehouse Farm is a good shout, or possibly the Rising Sun Country Park in Benton. If you're a tightwad, then I'd suggest a walk and picnic in Plessey Woods or something.
pedro111
Lol, the sea life centre, I went when it first opened about 12 years ago and it was total shite!!!
madras
Hall hill farm at lanchester is slightly better than whitehouse farm. Mr Twister up at consett (better than the gateshead one) has a canny crawl assault course type area for little'uns.

We live a couple of miles from Hall Hill farm so I was thinking about it but found out it's closed this time of year so I'll have to rule that one out. Live about 300yds from Mr Twisters but that's closed down now. Cheers tho Mad! Cheers everyone else for your ideas but the boss has put her foot down and it looks like we're going to the Blue Reef. I hope it's not as bad as some are saying. As long as it keeps the bairn occupied for a day I'll give it a go.
AyeDubbleYoo
I love the Sea Life centre to be fair, my Mam and Dad used to take me there and I thought it was amazing. Maybe it doesn't seem so impressive when you're older, but the kids will love it.
Stu
if you were going to go to Edinburgh Zoo..why not try the sea-life centre under the Forth Bridge. went there as a kid and loved it :-D

davy_fulla
Go to diggerland its immense no matter how old/young you are. That's a definite when he's about a year older. It's nice and local as well. Anyway, just came back from the Blue Reef and had a cracking day. It's a bit pricey seeing as we were in and out within 2 hours but we all enjoyed it. Pilko
You can normally make a day of the Sea Life centre if you go with kids, if you have an ice cream or some fish and chips afterwards and maybe a short walk on the beach. Of course, thats for the summer months.

We basically carried him all the way so it felt a bit rushed. I was getting into it as well like when they were feeding the seals. It's unbelievable how clever they are. The otters were class as well but stunk to high heaven.

Keep it local, keep it simple and keep it cheap as a -1 year old doesn't really give a shit where they are, just that they are fed, happy, warm, changed and entertained by their parents. Take him to Kikis cabin, the soft play in Shields, or any other soft play. Its too cold and he's too young for parks, Edinburgh is too far away and Sea life will be for you, which will take 5-10mins to walk around and your out.
