Can the software be erased and reinstalled on Sony Ericsson Mobiles?

Both me (w850i) and my mate (C902) have problems diagnosed as 'software' corruption.

 

So, could the phone be 'cleansed' and the software reinstalled?

I've tried that on my phone and it just says that my software is up to date. Haven't tried my mates yet but would expect similar.

 

I think a format is what might be required.

Hmm. Re-flashing for free is possible but complicated.

 

How old is the phone? Sony Ericsson may re-flash it at no cost if it's still within warranty.

I think I'll take this opportunity to unhelpfully say I hate Sony Ericsson mobiles, ever since the one I had for no more than a month broke. Inner screen was f***ed up without me doing anything substantial to it whatsoever. Sigh.
