Are there any bloody jobs out there?

I'm fucking desperate for a job. I've been out of work for a month now and have been receiving Jobseekers Allowance. I live at my mams house at the minute and my girlfriend also lives here which means its a joint claim. The problem is though, shes at college and she's just got a job working 22 hours a week which means that my claim might be getting closed. Apparently its the law that you get around £95 a week as a couple, so with her now getting around £130 it might stop my benefits. I find it fucking stupid that i might not be able to claim any money at all just because shes getting £130 a week. Its only a part time job and shes not exactly able to support me with it, i mean it wouldnt be worth her working there if she was paying my way and her way. This means i could have no income after Friday.

I'm bloody desperate for a job and im looking and applying for a few but i'm not having any luck so far. It goes without saying that im going to be on the bones of my arse if all of my money gets stopped. I've got to come up with 2 weeks holiday spending money and season ticket money, plus a lot of money for a few other things at various points over the next 8 months. I'll work in a Call Centre or anything, im just in desperate need of 20-40 hours work a week. Is anywhere recruiting though where you don't need experience? Since i left school i've been a labourer, done a full time ICT course at college, and worked part time as a Catering Assistant. It seems 95% of the jobs advertised out there you need experience. Jobs i know i could do but the lack of experience is buggering me.

So down to my original question. Are there any bloody jobs out there which don't require much experience? Call Centre, anything! Admin would be my preferred choice like but im not being fussy at the minute. I have had no luck with HMRC so thats out of the question. HELP!

Perhaps you could go to India and claim asylum. They may give you a house and pay all your expenses and give you money to spend on top of that.

Or not.

In this instance surely any type of work is preferable to none?

Under normal circumstances you have to work e.g. 15 hours to get e.g. 75 p/w, if your allowance is 50 p/w then you work 15 hours p/w for 25 quid!

If you have no allowance, this removes the disincentive to work for shit pay and makes it worthwhile. If you look at it this way, it may help...

Aye i applied for a job last week working only 10 hours for NMW. Its not really ideal, i'm not someone who won;t work for NMW and i would love a job getting anything between £100-200 for now if possible but i am desperate and i would definitely have to consider a smaller amount of hours.

Well, best of luck anyway, Andy Hunter's suggestion sounds worthwhile following up.

We don't know what sort of experience you've got/you might have got lucky/it might have been easier when you went for them given the current economic climate and all that. Etc.

I've also had jobs that I've managed to get within days of applying for them, but I've also had situations like the one I am in now where I am seriously struggling to find something permanent that I can rely on. And that's not so much a negative reflection on me as it is one that reflects how difficult it is to get the few jobs going in a small city like this at the moment.

I'd recommend still applying even when you dont have the experience they ask for in their advert. My mate did something similar for a decent job at Carlsberg. Even though they wanted someone with experience of working in labs, he fully admitted on his form that he didnt have experience but also pointed out his education, knowledge, potential and what he could do rather than what he couldnt. He got the job and has a pretty good career there.

The job situation is dire at the moment, jobs that you imagine are piss easy to get in good economic times are suddenly almost impossible to get due to the numbers of applicants.

The armed forces may be worth looking into Leazes, as I am at the moment.

  • 1 month later...

Just wondering if anyone knew of any temp full-time stuff? June-September ideally. Desperately need to rack up some funds over the summer period. Is a temp agency the way to go? Any help would be appreciated!

In Newcastle as a student over the summer it is pure luck to be honest if you go through an agency but unless you know someone that will sort you out there aren't many other options.

It took me a month to get a job last summer and I ended up with a nice little earner for a summer job (£12 an hour and flexi time) but some of my friends with less working experience than I(I worked full time for over a year before I went to University) didn't manage to get a job all summer.

The current economic climate will only make it harder to find work.
