Leazes1986
I feel like death today anmd i'm bloody sick of it. I woke up this morning feeling tired and shitty but i just thought it was the after effects of drinking on Friday and Saturday. I felt really hungry so i got a small carton of chips cos i didn't really fancy much and thought they might sort me out, but i was struggling after a few chips. I found it quite weird since i felt so hungry, and not long after i started to get that feeling when you know you are gonna be sick soon. I was sick probably about 4 hours later and an absolute bucketload came out. After that i've felt constantly cold even with a hot water bottle, and totally weak and drowsy. I went to bed about half 6 for a couple of hours but i had to get up again to go to the toilet and brought up the last of the shit what was inside me. I've been back to bed again but im just bloody freezing and don't feel much better. So i'm considering buying something to help from the shop but i dont know what would be best. I am not being a faggot either, this is awful Im hoping i manage a good nights sleep but im not optimistic at the minute. So is Lemsip the best thing to buy or if not what else would you recommend. All i've had since this started was a couple of botles of water but i dont think water will help me much alone.
Chrissy Bee
No, it's shite. There's not really any easy solution. You should keep drinking, eating what you can and get some sleep. If you want to take something, you're better off just taking two 500mg paracetamol tablets (don't take them if you're still going to use flu remedies) four times a day, plus two 200mg ibuprofen tablets three times a day. They're cheap and should both do something for your fever (they do at least have an evidence base).
colinmk
I would buy them andrews salts things. They sort you right out in no time. And a bottle of irn-bru.
Pilko
It is good - but make sure you make it yourself, or fill it full of Night Nurse so they can have a party while your asleep.
catmag
You'll be better off with 2 paracetamol and hot orange.
The Prophet
Thought this said "Is leprosy any good?" when I first read it. And to answer your original question, no sounds like something similar to what I had a week or two ago. If that's the case Lemsip (which is shit anyway) won't help at all. Just get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids and make sure you have a basin handy.
Dave
Lemsip always seems like a good idea but on the rare occasion I actually make it, it's crap and I don't touch it.
ElDiablo
Works quite well for me, especially when I need to get to sleep as it clears everything out for a while. Tastes like piss & vinegar though.
The Prophet
If I have a cold I used to make a mix of hot water, lemon, sugar and whisky. Always does the trick.
Neil
I know what you feel like but unfortunately you have to just see it through. Trying Lemsip won't really hurt. I don't think, anyway.
Guest firetotheworks
Depends what your ailment is I reckon. If you've got a cough and a bad nose and that it works well. Anything else it does nothing. Vicks is good for clearing you out and helping you sleep if thats any help.
themanupstairs
If I have a cold I used to make a mix of hot water, lemon, sugar and whisky. Always does the trick. that would be my recipe too. cognac or zivania (the greek stuff) would be the better option than the whiskey though. and sleep. you'll be up and perky in no time
James
A couple of teaspoons of honey will sooth for longer than any of the suggested, and contains antiseptic properties that will reduce the number of germs, which will help your body fight the infection. Depends on the symptoms, if you've got a blocked nose then you'll want the decongestant in Lemsip and if you've got a cough you might want the expectorant. If you buy these individually with the paracemtamol, it might be more expensive than the Lemsip and with that at least you get a shot of vitamin C in a nice sooothing drink. Adam
All lemsip seemed to do for me was turn my nose in to a tap of snot. It does make you feel better, but the honey idea will help your throat out more.
Jill
Them Lemsip cold & flu capsule things are alright for sorting out a stuffy head. The drinks are rank though.
Leazes1986
Well i eventually ended up just getting a box of Paracetamol. I didn't get the greatest nights sleep but i got a decent amount of hours still and i've ended up waking up today feeling really tired as if i've been on the piss for days with hardly any sleep and my appetite isn't great still, but i don't feel sick anymore and i'm not having temperature problems so i'm over the worst. I reckon a good nights sleep the neet will get me back to 100%. Haven't got a bloody clue how i ended up getting it in the first place, and i expected it to last for days with how shitty i was feeling yesterday. With it being derby week i was shitting myself Never mind though, a few hours on FM and a Fulham win the neet will keep me going. Cheers for everyones help. Oral decongestants aren't really clinically effective nowadays - 12mg phenylephrine is basically useless and there are side-effects with systemic use (a single dose of a nasal spray is just barely appropriate). Also, the normal Lemsip gives you a pretty low dose (650mg) of paracetamol which means you need the max strength (however much that costs). And according to that cochrane review, Vitamin C might reduce the duration of a cold by 8%, it's up to you if you think that's significant. And I don't know how anyone can stand the taste of the lemsip drink. We got some free samples of the oral powders though and they were nice if they still do them (they're just like lemon sherbet!)
