Remember playing Deus Ex on PC years ago, and thought it was class. Hopefully, this can build on that and may be one to look out for on the horizon...  :smug:

January 30, 2009 - According to an article in the latest issue of the Czech gaming magazine Hratelne, Deus Ex 3 will be a world coming apart as cybernetic technology creates a new form of racism, between those enhanced with nanotechnology and those who are not.

Thanks to a rough translation of the article on the Eidos Forums, we have plenty of new tidbits to chew over.

The story is about Adam Jensen, the chief of security for a cybernetic syndicate. After commandos breach his security layer with knowledge that could only come from an inside source, Jensen must search for answers. This new Deus Ex will actually serve as a prequel for the original game, which came out in June of 2000. The game will have several endings, but it will lead to the establishment of UNATCO, which is the organization that the protagonist in the original Deus Ex served in.

Hailed as a classic, the original Deus Ex is a blend of first-person action and role-playing in a near-future world full of conspiracies and technological revolution. Nanotechnology can create cybernetic humans that are smarter, faster, and more powerful than everyone else. Yet the theme of the game is the distrust of corporations and governments that wield such power.

Deus Ex 3 is being developed by Eidos Montreal. According to the Czech article, the game will feature smarter AI opponents, with squads centered around a squad leader. Cover will play an important role in the game, as well cybernetic abilities. Jensen will have X-ray vision, as well as the ability to do "multi-kills", which let him eliminate three to four enemies quickly. He also the ability to shoot wires out of his hand, which he can use to grapple to the sides of buildings.

The article further states that the game will rely less on RPG statistics and be more of an action game, but it will still feature RPG elements. There will also be an emphasis on conversations, particularly on reading facial expressions and body language. Meanwhile, the game will feature five cities spanning the world, three of which are known: Shanghai, Detroit, and Montreal.

Deus Ex 3 is being developed for the PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. The game doesn't have a hard release date of yet.

That was part of what made the first one so outstanding, imo. The conversation stuff sounds promising, but I hope it's not just all shooting and nothing else. Favorite parts of DX are almost all peaceful/stealthy moments.

Invisible War was complete rubbish in comparison to the original Deus Ex. They opted to dumb everything right down in order to make it a console game. The Skills and Biomods were merged together as one thing, every gun used the same type of ammunition and you couldn't customise your weapons with modifications either. They even turned lockpicks and multitools into the same thing which reduced the variation in the number of ways problems could be solved.

Deus Ex is one of the best games ever made, without question. Invisible War is probably one of the most disappointing sequels ever made.

By the sounds of things, this iteration will take the series even further away from what made the original so brilliant. Don't have high hopes, but I'll no doubt still end up playing it.

Universal Ammo was just fucking stupid.

Deus Ex is probably my favourite game of all time, but, from what I've read about this, I'm not expecting too much.

Hope this improves on the first.

The chances of this improving on the first are slim to none.

You really have to look to the likes of Bethesda now for a good quality first person RPG. Other companies seem to be under the impression that simplification of the menu systems etc is the way to go and in most cases it results in a rather basic game.
