it's an interesting match up in at least one way:  it's arguably the most successful franchise (steelers) going against the team with the longest trophy drought of any nfl team.  so, i'm hoping the cardinals get their due.  maybe it can inspire the toon!

I'm always amazed with the capability of American's to get worked up about a match in which their own team has no involvement in.

I haven't bumped into anybody from Pittsburgh or Arizona in the past couple of weeks but everyone seems to have established some sort of partisanship with either side.

I suppose the ability to latch on to a "second club" is necessary for a professional sports league with no relegation, meaning the season is effectively over for a lot of teams early on.

Your mistake lies in thinking it's just "a match".  It's as much a final as exists in any other sport.  Consider the FA Cup final, watched by millions, even when their own team has no involvement in.  CL Final, same deal.  WC Final and so on.  It carries special interest just because it's a trophy deciding game.  Rare to find a true neutral without a preferential winner in those circumstances too.  This whole idea of preferring one over the other when our own team isn't involved is not a trait we yanks possess in any more abundance than others.

Anyway I'd like to see Arizona win this one.  Boldin did me well in Fantasy Football this year and I really like their style.

I've rarely seen football fans around me get all that excited about the FA Cup or CL final though. Although I appreciate that the Super Bowl has certain mythical/cultural aspects that make it more of an "event" than those two.

I'm really mixed on this one.

Wouldn't mind Arizona winning cos it'd be quite the achievement... BUT Pittsburgh are the better team and they deserve it more. Also, I've been told that I'm meant to hate the Steelers. I do dislike them, but they really do deserve it more than Arizona.

I just don't like the thought of the Superbowl winners being equivalent to Wigan.

What time is it likely to finish?

Probably around 3am.

I'll be taping it and watching it on Monday.

TAPING IT?

NOOOO

Don't do it! I'm gonna be passing out, I'll need people on here to keep me entertained during ad breaks.

I'm planning on watching the toon demolish the filth and then maybe a 3 hour nap. I'm not normally one for naps, but feel it to be necessary today.
