Disposal of old Computer

Does anyone know how to dispose of an old PC and monitor?

It still works (although I have removed the harddrive). I tried to give it to 'Furniture Link' but they didn't want it as there is no harddrive in it.

It would be a shame to have to just take it to the skip. I know PC World/Currys do a recycling scheme but I think they charge you to take it away.

Any ideas?

Can you not just take it to that rubbish place near the Tyne Tunnel?

I took an old monitor and pc there about 5 years ago and the bloke told us to just chuck it in the tip.

***Edit*** Actually thinking back now it was cracking fun launching a monitor down into a huge skip and seeing it smash!!

Stick it in the boot of your car, go for a drive down the motorway, pull over on the hard shoulder when no-one's looking (night time is better) and lob it over the embankment.

Fly-tip it in a green belt area. If you live near the New Forest there is a good place, proper pisses off the locals too.

Where do you live guys? I'll drop the monitor off outside one house and the computer outside the others.

Yes that is the final option. Like I said, it seems a bit of a waste when it all still works. You'd think a charity would want them.

The software from http://www.dban.org/ is sufficient to wipe a HDD to a point where you'd need more sophisticated forensic software than most police forces use to actually recover the data from it.

Unless you have anything on your drives that might get you into trouble with MI5 that'll wipe it beyond recovery.

Wipe your HDD or even remove it.

As stated in my original post I have already removed the Harddrive.

You dont want to end up like Mr Glitter.

I don't have the same 'interests' as him so I have no worries there thanks. My reasons for removing the HD were more along identity theft / security type issues.
