Can you still break phone contracts?

Hi there, my insurance are playing silly beggers as i've lost my phone and O2 said i cannot upgrade or cancel my contract but im sure lots of people on here have done in the past.

I got the phone in Jan08, and its contract runs till MAY09 and i've not got a phone to use it on, and probably wont for 30 days for the cost of £30 and i'm really not happy at all about it.

I want out of the contract but O2 have said i'd have to pay the remaining. Can i just canel my direct debits and then cancel O2 and tell them they are not getting a penny?

two points.

Been with o2 for 5 years.

This is a verbal agreement contract extension over the phone.

cheers.

When I got a new contract and I only had a bout 6 months of the remaining 18 month contract to go with my original contract I rang up T-Mobile and got it put to the lowest tariff possible so I was paying £5 a month on that until I could cancel the contract while I had my new Orange contract going. The original contract was a baseline £35 a month to begin with btw.

Don't see why you couldn't do something like that. It's not ideal but it saves money over time.

The more likely thing is that you will have to effectively buy- out the rest of your contract. I worked for orange and this is the only solution given in this case apart from there being exceptional circumstances (ie mast gone down in area etc)

There are also rules in the terms and conditions that state that you can only drop down one price band in the life of your contract. So you will only be able to get a drop of say £5 a month for the last couple of months to pay off.

Do companies still buy out contracts?

This just gets worse.

Phoned up Lifestyle insurance to find out whats going on with my claim and its been rejected.

Apparently they don't cover student accounts from LLoyds any more, well from the 30th September and know fuker told me.

So now i really am fuked. If i could walk i'd break someones fuking legs at LLoyds right now.

I had a problem with 02 for a bit and I did manage to cancel the contract, basically since I had first got the contract they changed the details in it (You had to start paying more for 08xx numbers or something like that) as they had changed it on their side I was legally allowed to cancel.

I'll see if I can find out the specifics when I get in.

Just had a quick check however it seems it was 2007 (my memories shit)

however

http://www.wirelessforums.org/uk-telecom-mobile/o2-start-excluding-non-geographical-numbers-08xx-etc-inclusive-minutes-20201.html

If you look at the first post it says them changing some codes in early 2008, may be able to just get away with it, although you'd need to look into a it a bit further.

Nevermind, but thanks for looking.

£150 to get out of the contract, so i've just went and bought a PAYG mobile to see out the contract.

At least i can possibly shift it for half its price in 5 months time if im sick of it, or might just keep it on a 30 day rolling contract afterwards.

Samsung Soul it is, looks ok.
