GM
Was in two minds about whether to create this thread or whether just to PM the Toweliemeister - you can see I've decided to just create the thread... ...anyway, was wondering if anyone has been to Norway for holidays and if so, if they could recommend a reasonably affordable but comfortable, centrally located hotel in Oslo where my missus & I could stay in late July/early August? Been looking at a few around the central station area/near the Opera house - but the reviews are all a bit patchy saying it's very costly and not much value for money, and that the staff attitude can be a bit crap, and the hotels arent always clean etc...TripAdvisor can only be so much help up to a point, and if any native Norwegian posters here, or any others who have been up to Oslo a few times could maybe make a few recommendations for hotels that would be appreciated greatly! Planning to take a few days to wander round Oslo then afterwards maybe jump a train to Frederikstad, and then up to Hokksund for a look around that neck of the woods, then back down to Bergen before heading back to the UK. Cheers.

Kaizero
You should catch a game of football while you're in Norway, they're in mid-season during the summer. Other than that I'd recommend either the Radisson SAS or Thon Hotel in the centre of the city, reasonable prices and good quality hotels iirc. Was very nice, good location as well. Norwegian football is pretty shite though, isn't it Kaiz? I know Swedish is, can't see the Norwegian league being that much better. The Norwegian league is better than the Swedish league and the Danish league (bar FC Copenhagen), but not at all good. There's only two Scandinavian teams with a chance at doing something in Europe and that's FC Copenhagen and Rosenborg BK, then again you probably know that already. For a neutral (non-Norwegian/non-Swede/non-Dane) the Norwegian league is the most entertaining if you were to watch just a single match from a Scandinavian league I'd say. who are the forwards who stabaek have let go. i won a fair bit on them last season and have them backed at 5/1 for the coming season. is alanzinho still there ? Pall Gunnarson have gone, as has Alanzinho. They're working the market to bring in replacements though. I think you'll lose your money though, as the Norwegian league (minus the Rosenborg dominant years) never really have back to back winners. I'd put my money on Rosenborg this year, they've managed to keep on to their best players, and are adding to that.

Alanzinho went to Trabzanspor in Turkey after doing an N'Zogbia complaining everywhere saying Stabæk was ruining his life by not letting him leave to make his career get better. It's a good price, yes. But they won't retain it. I'm also hoping they'll not make it to the Champions League as I'd be embarassed on behalf of my country having the "best" football team from Norway participate in the Champions League playing their games in what just looks like a giant gym. Conjo
Quite a trip that. First of all, no hotels in Norway offer much value for money. Secondly, you are aware that If you are travelling Oslo-Fredrikstad-Hokksund-Bergen, Bergen isn't "back down", but on the other side of the contry? Might be worth to check out http://www.thonhotels.no and their budget hotels. All of their hotels in Oslo are located pretty central. I would call them when booking though, as the prices for whatever reason were higher when booking on the English version of the site. http://www.ankerhostel.no/ and http://www.cityhotel.no/ are cheap. The rooms reflect that, but you have the facilities you need. Im not so familiar with Fredrikstad and Hokksund, but at least im Norwegian, so if your woundering about something, just ask. GM
Cheers for the hotel recommendations lads. However, can anyone wanting to discuss the relative merits of the Norwegian Tippeligaen or Swedish Allsvenskan please fuck off and create a thread in the football forum? 80
In my experience, it's the Norwegians who are the first to slag the place off. A bit like they do their own footballers. Strange that. I like the place. Can't give you much help on the hotels front, though, I'm afraid. I do very much recommend a train ride up to the North and the fjords Subsisted on nothing but chocolate for the day, which isn't as fun as it sounds, but still. Bizarrely nice people in my experience - in a good way, neither creepy nor disingenuous. Also, if you're looking for a trade-in while you're there...
