Big Geordie
After a change from playing FM08 - so I fancy having a bash at an MMOPRG for a bit (when I get the odd few hour here and there) Used to play EVE a few years ago, but as cash it tight at the moment - can't afford the monthly subs (£10, IIRC) So if anyone can recommend something like EVE or LotR Online (and free), then I'd be grateful. Mowen
I've tried so hard with this post, I just can't get close to understanding it.

Ta. For the most part "Free" and "MMORPG" don't go together. The servers & bandwidth have to be paid by someone. The two "free" MMOs that I've not heard horrific things about are Guildwars and Silk Road Online. Guildwars has a single up-front cost to purchase the client (or did the last time I looked) whereas Silk Road Online has a store where you can purchase in-game items. Don't be surprised if there's poor/non-existent support, etc. If you're paying nothing you can't expect great service too. There's a 14-day refer-a-friend trial for LOTRO at the moment if you happen to know someone who has an account (I do, for the record) & there are similar trials for most MMOs. Alternatively, if you go through the list of MMOs currently in beta you can try to sign up to the beta programmes of the games where you'll be testing the game out (there will be bugs galore) for the developers but you'll get to play for free until the game gets released. ikri
Thanks, ikri. How much are the monthly subs for LotRO? Mowen - MMORPG is Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. No idea honestly, I've got a lifetime subscription so I've never paid the monthly fees. Pretty sure that it's under £10 per month, but not by a huge margin. Big Geordie
Lifetime subs? Never heard of that before. Guess you must give it some regular hammer?

ikri
Lifetime subs? Never heard of that before. Guess you must give it some regular hammer? Not as much nowadays but I get on when I have time, the lifetime subscription was less than 1 year's worth of monthly subscriptions & having been in the beta programme I knew I'd be playing it for that long at the very least so it was a bit of an easy choice. Guest Lazlo
Guild wars is pretty good. Prophecies is £7.99 on play and there are no subs. It's probably the best mmo you can get without a sub.
Big Geordie
I'm gonna have a look at this over the next couple of weeks; http://www.taikodom.com/content/view/1 It's said to be very similar to EVE Online, and it's free. Download is around 520Meg (ish) *update* Not worked for me as it doesn't support my graphics card. Shame.
