Not at all bad but how anyone can describe it as a "feel good" movie is beyond me...............................

Parky's film of the year and no messin.  :pow:

I'll mess with it, if you don't mind.

It's only February.

It came out in most markets this year. That's like saying my favourite album of 2008 is one that just has been released.

I have absolutely no desire to see this, which is strange because the few people I know who've seen it all say it's very good.

I think it's the name, makes it sound shite.

No doubt I'll see it some day and think it's good, but I can't see myself making a real effort to do so.

My favourite album of 2009 (it won't be topped) was practically the first album to be released this year.  :aww:

Strange attitude. It's a really good movie. Fun, original, suspenseful, exciting, beautifully shot and cut, good soundtrack, some incredible performances from kids and unknown actors, and a brilliant narrative structure whose complete cleverness triumphantly reveals itself at the close. Pisses all over most other things I've seen recently.

It's a decent to good movie imo, nothing more.

The first half is a bit like City of God in a way, immersing the viewer in the slums of a foreign world and bringing to life the odd picture that one might have of that sort of environment. That's when the movie is good - the acting by the kids in particular was top rate.

The second half was pretty average imo. The romance element was acted out poorly by novice adult actors who were far from convincing, the film became a tad silly, and the ending was just w*** - that bath scene was far too banal and the main element of the story became unconvincing. The film also lacked a real punch - I was waiting for something intelligent to happen, instead the story just petered out and ran on as expected.

Hence, I agree with the original poster - there was nothing really "feel good" about this movie. More a case of "feel let down". Could have been better than what it was. Ultimately, I wouldn't be suprised if it wins Best Picture as the Oscars, not because its a great film, but because the competition is s*** this year (or that my opinion is bollocks - like Dark Knight being 2 hours of my life wasted imo).

Which one?

Not that it matters, the new Muse album will be the best one released this year.

Animal Collective >>>>>>>>>>> Muse

Unless Radiohead come out with something new this year (doubt it), it won't be topped.

American release dates are the industry standard for awards and whatnot.

Agree with a lot of that, tmonkey - except I didn't feel quite as let down as you evidently did. The attribution of the term "feel good" to this movie is only relevant insofar as it has a happy ending and he gets the girl and the money. But you're right - the film starts out with such amazingly evocative scenery and stellar acting by the kids that when it reverts to the Hollywood-friendly popcorn by numbers routine of boy gets girl, yes, it does lose some of its ealy promise. That still doesn't detract from a pretty good effort by Boyle in this case. And at least the film is better than the truly insipid book upon which this film is based.

I know. But you're not in the industry or American.  :aww:

Just saying. Excuse my pedantry.

i dunno i just feel the movie had very quite ordinary story... nothing so called SPECIAL!

my feeling after seeing it... just flat!... nothing inspired on it.

I would hope I WOULDN'T BE inspired by a movie set in the slums of Bombay, reality TV and full of police brutality

that sort of thing makes me angry not inspired

On reflection, the overall story and the acting in general is average at best. Tells its own story that the "best picture of the year" didn't get any nominations whatsoever in the acting categories.

Despite that, I think the level of skill displayed in the shooting/editing/and sound of this movie is what pushes it beyond the boundaries of just "good" into "great" territory. There are just so many moments in the movie where you just have to just pause and think "wow" because of the sheer technical mastery involved. From a cinematographic/editing sense I think this movie is almost perfect, and in the end it certainly deserves best picture more than any of the other nominees.

"The Dark Knight" and "Wall-E" should both have gotten nominations if the Academy had any sense at all though.
