bulivye
here at the school where i teach we've just lost an iconic teacher to heart failure this weekend & for some reason Howie Day's song Collide is really fitting the mood for the day. what other songs do you find are good for catching the mood during the ups & downs of life's events? :spock:

OzzieMandias
For a while now I've been slowly adding to an iTunes playlist of songs that worked their way into my life because they seemed to sum up what was going on in it at the time. Just glanced at it and there's all sorts of stuff in there, from the Stones and the Pistols to Ryuichi Sakamoto, Cesaria Evora and obscure Berlin trance. Can't imagine any of it making much sense to anyone else, though.

Yeah, but it's what captures what mood and in what circumstances.

Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys would certainly be one.... I would imagine there'd be a fair amount of Stone Roses, Dexy's Midnight Runners and The Pogues played that day as well... as if it its ever going to happen like! Guest firetotheworks
Good thread. Aphex Twin - Alberto Balsalm. For me it makes me feel really sad, but in that beautiful way. Cursive - The Recluse. For me as a song (not the lyrics, or subject) it sounds like the life I'd like. Its hard to explain. Sigur Ros - Glosoli. Pure crescendal emotion. The one I always fall back on tends to be this though: Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way. EDIT: Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence...cant believe I forgot that one. I'll be jazzing to the beep tone of a life support machine, because I'll have died and gone to heaven. Nah. Ive thought about it, and probably this: New Order: True Faith.....or the Jurassic Park theme tune. I'll definitely cry my eyes out if we win anything like. Even the Carling Cup. LiquidAK
The Smiths - What Difference Does It Make? - Makes me feel that I'm not alone when I realise how little you can do to change how other people feel about you. Angels and Airwaves - Heaven - Fills me with massive amounts of optimism. There are others, but those are the two I listened to recentley.

Nice one mate . Just so you know, I only meant the song Fisherman's Blues, not the whole album... Don't think too highly of the rest of the album really, but the title track is a great, rollicking, optimistic song. The Waterboys are a funny band like that - loads of mediocre output punctuated by the odd stonker of a tune, of which Fisherman's Blues is the best imo! Tooj
Let Down by Radiohead is a great one when you just want to sit back and reflect. This line is absolutely brilliant; "The emptiest of feelings, disappointed people clinging onto bottles, And when it comes, it's so, so disappointing"

This line is absolutely brilliant; "The emptiest of feelings, disappointed people clinging onto bottles, And when it comes, it's so, so disappointing" there's a line from , i think, a goo-goo dolls song, "we grew up way too fast, now there's nothin' to believe. & reruns all become our history..." that's one that gets me reflecting & a bit nostalgic too... tahnks! Guest firetotheworks
If were talking lyrics, then Ive always liked the line 'until the end, there is no end' on All Through the Night by Cyndi Lauper. It doesnt seem that amazing written down, you have to hear it really.

Just found it was originally written by Jules Shear. Hadn't heard of him before. Another one that always sticks in my mind is all of the lyrics in Be Quiet and Drive by Deftones, but in particular the line 'I dressed you in her clothes, so drive me far away'
Tooj
Canny overplayed now like but you still can't knock Creep by Radiohead. Everyone's been in that situation at some point.
