Allmo
Basically, I'm looking to get a different car for around 2700 - 3000. I'm 18, have an SP30 (Speeding Fine) and 1 claim (no damage to either car, but she claimed soft tissue damage). Basically, yesterday, being a named driver on another policy (the mothers) a 1.6 S 16V Golf 2003 was 1300 TP F and T, however today for some reason that, and all other cars have increased exponentially in price, the golf to £2000. I've did all my quotes on direct line, some on my mums insurance, some on my dads, some with my own name, is it possible that they have tracked the quotes and realised i'm the constant within all the quotes therefore it must be based around me, and i'm not just a named driver, but probably the primary driver? GM
Fuck, but that's seriously expensive insurance right there. If I was you I'd take the hint and just not bother with a car.
Allmo
f***, but that's seriously expensive insurance right there. If I was you I'd take the hint and just not bother with a car. Thats not an option though. It's a hell of a price like, but thats what it is, well the 1300 one, 2000 is just too much tbh.
Guest toonlass
They want to charge you £1300 for Third Party, Fire and Theft? mackems.gif
Chrissy Bee
Check how much it costs for first party (you don't tend to save much on tpft anyway). And do some quotes on one of the price comparison sites, Admiral or the likes may be a lot cheaper. At the end of the day though, you've had a claim and you're very young + male. It's not going to be cheap.

And young + SP30 + previous claim for soft tissue damage = no insurance company wanting to touch you with a bargepole so they'll rack up the rates and hope you don't come back to bother them. Allmo
Well basically over 24 hours I have tried insurances for a Renault Megane 1.9Dci aswell as the Golf and other cars. Yesterday it was 1500 fully comp, 2 hours ago it was 2800 fully comp, 20 minutes ago 2100 fully comp. Basically something random must be going on, I have the first quote saved for 14days though, so hopefully that will stick if I end up with a Megane, but seriosuly there must be something crazy going on like. Chrissy Bee
Do you think your choice of cars might be contributing?
Allmo
Do you think your choice of cars might be contributing? Well yeah obviously. I had a 1.2 polo before this, but my sister wrote off her car (She's 22 but only started to drive recently after passing 3 years ago), therefore she bought mine for 2700 (the write off cash) and I'm getting a different one with that. I know I'm pushing the boundaries insurance wise, but I have the means to pay around 1500 for it, therefore I fancy getting a more powerful car basically. Should guarantee a few more 'soft tissue damage' claims in due course.
Guest toonlass
I would cry if my insurance was 1/2 the total cost of my car. Saying that Golf's are lush.
Rob W
18 years old, a speeding fine and a claim already - looks like its a Nova for you me lad Seriously - do you think you can handle a bigger car? Cos your record suggests not..............
Guest toonlass
Have you tried swift cover? Cheapest place for me this year tbh
pedro111
Honestly, at 18 and with your record you need to go for a 1.2 tbh. Thankfully the days of sky high insurance are a thing of the past for me and with 5 years no claims, car insurance is now a minor irritation rather than a huge expense to me. Allmo
I don't see why I have to but i'll explain both cases anyways. The speeding fine, I was coming back from dropping a mate in Washington. Theres a road called Bonemill Lane, from his its national speed limit, so I was at around 55 mph. However, it sooned turned to 30, and around 10m after that, a police car was set up behind a hedge with a set up speed camera. I should have been more aware, yes, but the situation of the speed trap means it would have caught many many people. I was caught at45mph, slowing down from my 55 to 30. I should have been at 30 by the time I hit the sign, yes, but it just doesn't happen like that tbh. The Claim was on Leam Lane, I was doing 20mph in rush hour, admittedly changing my radio and went into the back of a Mazda 6. There was no damage to her car, although my Number plate was smashed. She got out of the car, absolutely fine nothing wrong with her whatsoever, so we exchanged details, I took pictures of where I hit here etc... She didn't claim anything for the damage to her car, but she went down the compen route to get a bit of cash which was a bit shit. I obviously was at fault for both times, but its not as if i'm a boy racer, speeding everywhere.
Dave
Insurance companies don't give a fuck how you got them, mate. You're 18. Get a small car in a low insurance group and build up some no claims. Here are a few ideas: http://www.parkers.co.uk/choose/TopTen.aspx?category=6&Template= Insurance group selector: http://www.wisebuyers.co.uk/motoring/car-insurance/Find-Cars-By-Insurance-Group/18/

GM
Those rip off bastards at Direct Line have just upped my premium for the coming year from £543 to £727. I barely even use the fucking thing!

Filflop1
dont go through your parents as a named driver if its your car its classed as fraud http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/7282236.stm
Guest toonlass
Seems like they are upping the cost of insurance for everyone. Mine has gone up too by about £150. Bit mad like but c'est la vie! I would still cry if my insurance was anywhere near the grand mark. That's just mad!
GM
Think I may have found a better quote. Simples. Or maybe not. It's not comparing the market on a like for like basis...seems some policies aren't quite as "comprehensive" as others.
Chrissy Bee
They just put the price up for everyone hoping you'll not bother leaving. I got quoted £780 (nearly as much as it cost two years ago for the same car with zero NCB) to renew from Admiral, ended up paying £510 from Elephant (which just happens to be the same damn company). Guest lankybellwipe
I'll say again, I sold my car whilst still at work because of this, road tax hikes, and at the time, gogo juice was approaching £1.50/ltr. As long as I can walk, and there are buses, cars and the budgetbashing expense required to keep them, can fuck off!
